ALVARO BRISENOII, a third-year student at South Texas College of Law,
and CLYDE LEUCHTAG, a second-year student, recently were awarded
$1,500 each in scholarships from the Faculty Minorities Committee/The
scholarships are funded through the College's Annual Fund Program.
Each fall and spring semester, two minority students are chosen by a faculty
committee for the scholarships, which are awarded for the purpose of promoting
diversity by rewarding outstanding scholarship and leadership among students
who are ethnic minorities. Briseno and Leuchtag are among the top students in
their classes.
C. LEE PARMLEY, M.D., a second-year student just published an article
in The Houston Lawyer. Parmley's article "The Attorney Affiant Turns Wit-
ness," can be found in the Nov.-Dec. issue of the magazine.

New
York
The South Texas advocates have once again distinguished our school at the
national level.
The National Moot Court team, having previously won first place in the
Southwestern Regionals, advanced to the National Finals held in New York City
last week. Participating at the National tournament were 28 law schools which
qualified from across the nation. To advance to New York, South Texas had
previously defeated Baylor, University of Houston, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkan-
sas and Texas Tech. In New York, the team defeated law schools from Oregon,
Georgia and Utah before losing a split decision in the national quarter-finals to
the University of Connecticut
This tournament, sponsored by the Association of the Bar of the City of New
York, began with 153 law schools participating in the fall. This year's quarter-
finalist team compares well with last year's finalist team and the 1985 squad
which finished 3rd in the Nation.
The American Bar Association sponsors the other national moot court
competition which occurs in the Spring and Summer semesters. South Texas is
the reigning national champion.
This year's team consisted of Levon Hovnatanian, Sharon McCally and
Robert For an.
