514: Cazort, .33,841; Martineau, 29,258:
Williams, 20,004; Ferguson, 19,827;
Wilson, 19,488.
Ferguson made his admission of de-
feat the vehicle of scathing denuncia-
tion of the Ku Klux Klan. The nomi-
nation of Terral, he said in a formal
statement, was a vindication of the
principles for which he stood during
the campaign. Mr. Ferguson claimed
credit: for Cazorts defeat and the
stamping out of "Comerism" in Arkan-
sas politics.
The reference to “Comerism was di-
rected at J. O. Comer, grand dragon of
the Ku Klux Klan in Arkansas, and a
leader in Republican politics in the
state. In a letter to Mr. Terral, Fer-
guson declared that “in the contest just
ended, the moot important matter was
the defeat of ‘Comerism’ and Republi-
can interference with Democratic rule
in Arkansas.”
