Professor Paul McGreal joined the faculty in 1996, he specializes in constitutional law, administrative law and
federal courts. He is a graduate of Williams College, Southern Methodists University School of Law and Yale Law School. He
previously clerked for the Honorable Warren W. Matthews of the Alaska Supreme Court and worked as an associate at Baker &
Botts, L.L.P. in Dallas.
Professor Francesca Ortiz has taught at South Texas since 1996, she specializes in property law, environmental law
and professional responsibility. She is a graduate of the University of Texas and Harvard Law School. Before joining the faculty
she worked as an associate at both Baker & Botts, L.L.P. in Austin and Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue in Austin.
Professor Val D. Ricks has taught contracts, corporations, agency and partnership and jurisprudence at South Texas
since 1996. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University and the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU. Previously, Ricks
worked at the Salt Lake City law firm of Kirton & McConkie and clerked for the Honorable Charles E. Wiggins of the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Professor Kevin Yamamoto specializes in tax law, teaching Federal Income Tax, Advanced Federal Income Tax,
Corporate Tax and Federal Estate and Gift Tax at South Texas since 1996. He is a graduate of the University of California,
Davis, University of San Diego School of Law and the University of Florida School of Law. Before teaching, he worked as an
associate at Kaye, Rose, Tamulski & Maltzman in San Diego and clerked for the Honorable Irving Hill, U.S. District
Court, Central District, Los Angeles.
The South Texas Faculty includes 58 full-time professors and approximately 40 adjunct professors.

Students from South Texas College of Law captured the top spot at the George Washington University National Security Law Moot Court Competition in
Washington D.C. The Team of Sheri Caldwell, Buffy Martines, and Brent Mayr was named Best Team and was presented the Best Legal Brief Award of the
competition. The students compete with teams from other law schools from across the nation, preparing and arguing legal issues before panels of attorneys and
judges. This year's topic centered around the use of military tribunals. The winning South Texas team was coached by Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece, and
Houston attorneys D. Matthew Freeman, Class of 2000, and David V. Wilson, II, Class of 1993. This was the 80th National Title earned by South Texas in moot
