I had a most pleasant visit
with FRANCIS WILSON, wife of
JOHN WILSON. They, with their
barely two-year-old son were
spending the weekend with
JOHN’S parents, GRACE and
THEODORE WILSON. Their ba-
by is a love and is smart as a
much older child. He also has
an ambitious name—THEODORE
CLARK for his maternal and
paternal grandfathers. He’s
known best as TEDDY, a name
which will probably cling
through the years though FRAN-
CIS says she will insist on drop-
ping the Y when he is older.
I mentioned before, JOHN’S
article "Dialect Is Dynamite”,
which was published in the 1949
"Writer’s Year Book." FRANCIS
told me that the .Writer's Digest

WILLIAMS, and his family in
Galifornia and that’s a trip
worth recording too.
CLIFFORD ANDERSON, who
had planned to make the trip
and was disappointed because
of an accident in which she
broke her ankle earlier in the
summer ’ was there as was
LOUISE MOORE, who had
planned to go this year but was
unadviodably detained at home
for the time. To the travelers,
RUTH presented cosmetics for
their trip and to LOUISE and
CLIFFORD, she gave boxes of
kleenex on which to dry their -
tears.
At another grocery store, I ran
into old friend, whom I had not
seen for some years. She said,
“You do remember me," and I
replied, "I certainly do.” For
who, once knowing MARY OL-
SEN, could ever forget her. She
is a registered nurse and one of
the best. She has that rare com-
bination of efficiency, gentle-
ness, understanding and lovable-
ness that make her an unforget-
table character. She can come
into one’s home without causing
even a ripple in the family
routine.
She came out to nurse her
brother - in - law, JUDGE SOL
JONES through a tough spell,
and stayed on to visit with hint .
and her sister, LUCILE, for a
time.. She has retired from ac-
tive nursing and lives with her
husband and children in Bars-
tow, California, on the edge of
the Mohave Desert. She says
they all love it out there. She
had with her, her youngest son.
I would say a. beautiful child of

would resent being called beau-

he will live up to. The family

I’m expecting big things from

willingness to work cannot miss.

They have reservations at the
famous "Hotel Frontenac" I do
envy them that trip. I’d love to
pillage the ozone amongst the
White and Green Mountains and
flood my dusty mind with the
blue of the lakes and the whim-
sical varaties of the northern
rivers.
RUTH RIESTO had the four
travelers for a noon day meal
on Friday before they left on
Saturday. Of course they talked
much of last year’s trip to the
West, at which time RUTH was
one of the party. She did not
go with them this summer be-

I think these sultry days that
the average woman could sub-
sist on. sandwiches and salads
and fruit but the man of the
household requires something
that will- stick to his ribs, like
roast beef and beans, potatoes
and pie; so the housewife must
- be food minded even though
she’d rather just read and loaf I
and not ven light the gas. ■
