Not to be outdone by his own
performance. Deutrich proceeded
to kick the extra point which sent
the Brahams out in front by 48

Following the final Bellville

The 1957 Navasota Rattler
football season closed Friday
night with a 46-6 defeat at the
hands of the Bellville Brahmas
on Brule Field for the Rattler's
tenth loss of the season.
In the fourth quarter Nava,
sota hit its peak of the season,
allowing Bellville only two yards
net in the rushing department
while holding them scoreless. It
was in the final period of play
that the Rattlers got their sec-
ond touchdown of the season
with the Rattlers in poossssion
of the football on the Bellville
six-inch line as the game end-
ed. With four minutes, 45 sec-
onds remaining in the contest,
Shelton Boone took to the air-
ways to hit Dennis Killian with
a 12-yard touchdown pass. This
' was the second touchdown pass
thrown by Boone, the other being
to Latham Boone against A. &
M. Consolidated for the first
Rattler touchdown. Gene Nichols
failed to score the extra point
or a power play, leaving Nava-
sota with six points on the score-
board.
Victor Rice set up the near-
miss scoring drive, which was
halted by the clock, with an in-
terception of Charles Stark’s pass
to Bobby Hagen on the Nava-
sota 47 yard line. Three running
plays into the left side netted
the Rattlers 13 yards and a first
down on the Bellville 41. From
this poin Joe Fultz passed to
Spann Greenwood for 38 yards
- with Killian throwing a key
block downfield which almost
denied Greenwood for a touch-
down. It was ths Bellville safety
man who finally put the clincher
on Greenwood on the Bellville
13. Shelton Boone attempted to
repeat his touchdown passing
success to Fultz but the ball
went wide of its mark. Once
again from the Braham 13 Boone
took the air on what turned out
to be the last play of the game
and hit Killian, who was pulled
down immediately Just short of
the goal. While Boone’s pass was
traveling to Killian the score
over after a high snap from cen-
ter, leaving Bellville out in
front by six points.
The second Bellville touch-
down in the first quarter came
with 50 seconds left when Ha
gen once again tried the tackle
slants from the Rattler 13 yard
line with the play carrying for a
touchdown. Deutrich failed to
convert aa the quarter ended
shortly thereafter with Bellville
in possession of a 12 point mar-
gin.
Early in the second quarter
Doan punted for the Rattlers but
Deutrich rubbed out the 32-yard
boot to put Bellville in action on
the Rattler 24. On first down
Charles Stark kept the ball on
the belly series over right tackle
to score with four minutes, 15
seconds gone. Deutrich convert-
ed the extra point, his first of
four.
Bellville scored again with
three minutes, 50 seconds to play
in the second quarter with J. E.
Lynn going over left tackle for
the touchdown. Deutrich failed
to convert Two plays later a
handoff from Ben Hansen to
Gene Nichols miscued with J.
Fisher recovering for Bellville
and to set up another touch-
down. A pass from C. Acebo to
Bobby Lange cleared for 18 yards
and a touchdown with only one
minute, 30 seconds left in the
half. Deurich converted to end
the first half ecoring with Bell-
ville out in front by 32 point*
By approval of both coaches,
the second half was played with
ten minute quarters instead of
the regulation 12 minute pe-
riods. Bellville received to send
the two teams back Into action
and the Brahmas wasted little
time in moving the scoreboard
indicators. On the second play
from scrimmage in the last half
Bobby Hagen ecored his third
touchdown of the evening when
he went up the middle for *
yards through the center of the
Rattler defence and set sail for

Bellville went right to work in
the opening minute of play.
Latham Boone took the opening
kickoff but never got full poo
session of the ball, fumbling on
the Rattler 14 with J. Prause re-
covering for Bellville. The Brah-
mas wormed their way to the
Rattler one with three off tackle
slants before ‘ Bobby Hagen
crashed over left tackle from the
one. Prior to Hagen’s plunge, the
Rattlers drew two yards for off-
sides to move the football near-
er to the goal. Hagen’s touch-
down came with one minute
and 50 seconds gone in the open-
