Chicago Socialists.
Cinc-tcio January I. Socialists at
their meeting to-day discussed the ques-
tion "Why do men sleep In the tun-
nels?" Several speeches endeavored to
show that It was entirety owing to the
exlstenco or capitalists that they were
obliged lo sleep In tunnels nnd anywhere
night overtook them. T. 1'. Duptr said
the Socialist would not get their duo
until they burned everything before
them as General Sherman did on Ids
march through Georgia.
Mill Bayard's Death.
W.iKiiixoriiN' January IS. Tlie re-
mains ol Mils Ilnyard were taken to
Wilmington Del. this afternoon at 4
o'clock for Interment. They were ac-
companied hy the Secretary two of his
sons and a few personal friends. No
ceremonies will be held In this city.
There will be no postponement of the
state dinner to be given by the President
Thursday evening In honor or the diplo-
matic corps on account or the death or
Miss llayard. In accordance with Hie
expressed wish or Secretary llayard thu
President omitted Ids regular afternoon
reception to-day but will probably con-
sent to receive callers to pay their re-
spects again on Wednesday. Tho regu-
lar cabinet meeting will be held to-morrow
as usual. Mies Cleveland will hold
n publlo reception on Saturday after-
noon but will deny herself to ll visitors
until that date.
Arrived at Wilmington.
Wii.Mixiiinv Del. January IS. The
train hearing the body of Miss Katharine
llayard arrived here this evening.
Secretary llayard his sons and Senator
Grny accompanied the remains to this
city. The casket was taken to the old
Swedish Church where It will remain
until the funeral. On tho arrival of the
cortegu at the church the casket was
carried nnd placed on a catafalque with
floral offerings grouped over and around
It. Friends ol the deceased will hold
vigil thero to-nlglil. The funeral will
tnke place at '1 o'clock to-morrow after-
noon and It Is the wish of the family
that II shall he conducted with as little
display as possible. The Interment will
bo In the family lot In the old graveyard
which dates back certainly to 17i)3 and
tradltronally to the days ot Fort Cbrlslna
and the Swedish settlers or Peter Stuy-
vesant's time.
