the Texas Fire Insurance commission,

date for the showing, in that city of

AL 9 o’clock the Ex-Students’ As-
sociation will pls© hold a meeting in
the Y. M. C. A. auditorium which will
be in the nature of an informal re-
ception. At 10:30 the annual business
meeting of the association will take
place, and at this time the graduates
will be welcomed into the organization.
At noon the almnl address will be de-
fvered by Lamar Belthea of Bryan in
the main auditorium.
Following the address the men grad-
uates with the men of the Ex-Students'
Association, will have dinner at the
Country Club and the women will have
service in the new guard. This com-
pany if one of three companies or-
ganised in excess of the brigade of in-
fantry, the others being at Dallas and
Denison. In the event additianal in-
fantry companies are organized these
companies will form a neucle for an
additional regiment. At present no
steps are being Uken for additional in-
fantry comranies, the nine additional
units authorized to be formd, balng
coast and afield artilleries and engineer-
ing companies.

The public summer schools will open
next Monday at the- High School and
nil, or nearly all, of tha ward schools.
1 he school board will designate the
teachers this week who are to be In
charge. Fuller announcement with ref-
erence to the schools will be made by
the authorities within a few days.
The object of the summer schools is
to afford to those who through ab-
sences or other cause may have fallen
behind in some of fheir studies, the
opportunity to catch up, or to allow
ambliious students to make extra
course*.
Bidders representing five or six
bond buying houses are expected to
be on hsnd at the City Council Mon-
day afternoon when the city's old re-
funding bonds are to be offered at auc-
tion. It is hoped that a new issue can
be substituted which shall bear a low-
er rate of interest and fall due se-
rially instead of sl) in a lump forty
years hence. It is also desired to re-
move the lien now existing against the
earnings of the water and light de-
partment.
The City Council assembled Monday
morning to discuss the matter in ad-
vance, but Mayor Wooldridge was
called to attend a conference of the
Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber of Commerce is letting
th© contract today for the printing of
5000 illustrated booklets setting forth
the advantages of Austin. A large
number of the booklets will be distrib-
uted by the Austin delegation to the
International Rotary convention to as-
semble soon at Cincinnati. Others will,
be distributed by the Chamber of Com-
merce to persons everywhere who may
desire to know more about Austin. In
compiling the book, stress will be laid
on the pleasure advantages, the edu-
cational Interests and especially the
industrial and business teatu&cs of the
city's life.
A committee composed of M H.
Rowzee, W. H. Richardson Jr. and W.
E. Long has the preparation of the
book in course. It is to be attractively
printed and illustrated, with handsome
blue cover bearing picture of the State
Capitol in bronze, the lettering to be

of James H. Wilkerson, attorney for
Will H. Orpet, charged with the mur-
der of Marian Lambert, to clear up re-
cent facts with respect to a mysterious
Joseph Hartman, were unavailing when
court opened today. Mr Wilkerson
wanted to know if State's Attorney
Dady had caused the arrest or seques-
tration of Hartman, but the court ruled
that the prosecution can not be com-
pened to divulge its plans to the de-

Wilkerson last Monday and to have
told the lawyer a story concerning
Marian Lambert. He said that Ciara
Cramer, his cousin, a domestic em-
ployed at Lake Forest, told Miss Lam-
bert that Hartman had a drug which
would relieve her condition. Hartman
said he gave Miss Iambert the drug.
Miss Cramer’was said by Hartman
to be in Toledo and Mr. Wilkerson sent
one of his partners to the Ohio city
to investigate. Hartman promised to
produce Miss Cratner for contirmutlou
