There is always a circumstance that can cause the early loss of
a child’s tooth like a swing knocking one out; but this doesn’t
upset the entry of permanent teeth. A permanent tooth may
come in sooner if the open space is available but as a general rule
the remaining baby teeth guide it into its proper position and '
keep it there. .
Permanent teeth may begin to come in with spaces between
them and may appear as though they are extremely large. As
more teeth come in, the spaces are closed. If the teeth are too
large for the space available, rotations may occur. A dentist can
evaluate the space discrepancy and can possibly recommend
serial extraction of baby teeth to provide proper alignment of
permanent teeth as they erupt.
Sometimes baby teeth aren’t lost when a permanent tooth
begins its eruption. If this occurs the teeth may need to be
removed by a dentist.
A diet of chewy foods like meat and apples contribute to the
loosening of baby teeth. Soft diets, which are predominant to-
day, tend to lessen the naturalburden needed to direct a perma-
nent tooth into its proper position in addition to loosening baby
teeth.
Sometimes when a baby tooth is lost the gums may bleed
slightly. This is normal and must take place for the proper heal-
ing to take place. Don’t let saliva misrepresent the amount of
blood. Sometimes blood and saliva will mix and there will ap-
pear to be more blood than necessary.
Gauze or a wad of tissue can be placed over the socket and if
the child bites down for a period of time on this the bleeding will
stop.
- Frequently major orthodontic problems can be eliminated in
the future by proper care as a child. Permanent teeth are a life
long attribute to personality and health. Children will benefit
from proper treatment for a life time.

The Allen Parks and Recrea-
tion Department and the Boy
Scouts of America announce
the formation of a High Adven-
ture Explorer Post in Allen.
Emphasis for the group will be
on high adventure activities
such as backpacking, canoeing,
camping, repelling and other
items of interest.
“The Post was created to
serve a real need in Allen,” says
APARD Recreation Super-
visor, Trey Goodman. “That is
to expose teenagers and young
adults to the benefits of outdoor
activities. Wilderness activities;
have a way of positively influen-
cing the mind, the spirit and the
body which adds up to a much
higher quality of recreational
experience. Hopefully, the Post
will give young people a chance
to have that experience.
The Post will be made of high
school students in Allen and
will be sponsored by APARD
and the Boy Scouts of America.
Interested students and/or
parents should attend the first
organizational meeting on Mon-
day, Dec. 16. The meeting will
start at 7:30 p.m. and will be
held in the Allen City Hall.

Losing and
growing teeth
“All I want for Christmas are my two front teeth.” There may
have been a child in your family that has been singing that for a
while or at least in the past.
Losing teeth is a normal body function beginning usually
around six years of age. Sometimes a child may begin losing
teeth as early as five or as late as seven or eight.
The first teeth to be lost are usually the two front lower teeth.
These were the first to come into the mouth and are the first to
leave. The teeth are lost in the same Sequence that they entr in-
to the mouth.
