Sterling G. Evans, Pres., Federal Land Bank, Houston, who
list the Guaranty Trust Co. of New York as one of their
correspondents
Mr. Stetson asked to be remembered t, you, inquiring where you were,
when I told him that you were at Mineral ells. After the luncheon
he discussed the mounting public debt, his opposition to the present
administration and his happiness that dillkie is no longer a contend-
er. He said he now thought that Dewey had a chance to be elected,
which he did not think before Willkie's defeat in disconsin.
Saw Tina Sharp on the street and talked to her a few moments.
Several of the bankers commented favorably on the story in the Texas
Bankers Record.
Called on Aubrey Carter, who was out of town until Monday. Called
at the Union on George Hamman, afterwards on Henry Horne, regarding
a return of the good balances from the Union with us. In both cases
I stressed that we had no desire or intention of disturbing relations
but wished to have this as an additional connection at Galveston, men-
tioning that while we respected relationships we were not soliciting
any business on that basis nor did we want to be discriminated against
on that basis. I hope to be able to write Aubrey Carter a letter tell-
ing him what I intended to mention, if I had found him in, asking his
assistance and confirming my call and conversation with the above two
mentioned. On your return, I may want you to drop a line
to Pillot after discussing the matter with you.
