The record of unvarying enthusiasm
which Charles B. Hanford has estab-
lished this season is conclusive evidence
that his productions are among the
very few that deserve to be so her-
aided. Mr. Hanford has surrounded
himself with a company that surpasses
any that he has yet organised, if the
unanimous opinion of reviewers may
be credited. His leading lady, Miss
Marie Drofnah, has established herself
as a favorite with all who have seen

A Mexican named Antonio Santone,
aged 28 year*. was shot and killed near
Cameron Flats, twelve miles northwest
of Austin on the Colorado river yes-
terday morning at 10 o'clock. He was
shot three times with a 38-calibre Win-
chester rifle and J. A. Thurman, aged
56 years, a farmer who has lived near
Cameron Flats for many years. Is in
the county jail charged with having
done the shooting.
Thurman arrived at the county
courthouse about 4 o'clock in the af-
ternoon and surrendered to Sheriff
with a company that reflects marked
credit not alone upon themselves indi-
than four years afo. Chicago enthused
very much over "Arizona,” and oddly
enough New York, which is not usually
fond of accepting outside verdicts, fell
into line and followed the band wagon.
Since it was seen here "Arizona" has
been played for fifteen more weeks in
the metropolis, thereby achieving the
record of more presentations in New
York within a given limit than any .
other dramatic offering. The musical k
freak, "Florodora" is the only piece of i I
contemporary presentation that has v
equalled "Arizona” in the number of II
performances within the past eighteen I
months. "Arizona” is a delightful play, M
clean, wholesome as well as thrilling,
drawn on the lines of real red-blooded J l
humanity and lightened with comedy •
of a particularly excellent type which *
Thomas alone knows best how to han-
dle. Messrs. LaShele and Raymond
were warmly commended in New York
for the excellence and even balance of
the cast in "Arizona,” no less than for
the taste and opulence of the scenic in-
vestiture. • No advance in prices to-
night.

To revel in Shakespeare and place
high the laurels of sugcess secured
therein is the aim and ambition of most
of the students of histrionic art. In
this as in other matters of this world
that is ever worldly, there are many
who aspire where there are few who
succeed. While all this is true with
that truism that guards the founda-
tion of the axiom there is a pleasure
experienced in recording the success
that has attended Miss Elizabeth Ken-
nedy’s advent into the Shakespearean
world. Miss Kennedy is not unknown
to Austin and the southern circuit by
reason of several previous appear-
ances here in other plays and other
roles. Upon these occasions she won
approval and admiration by reason of
her faithful work and cleverness. Last
season the favorable impression she
made in "Captain Jinks of the Horse
