Growing figs in the city of London
are great rarities now. In the court-
yard of the Aldgate ward schools there
is to be seen at the present time a
beautiful fig tree in full leaf with at
least twenty-five good-sized figs de-
veloping upon it. The tree is believed
to be a relic of the abbey of the Holy
Trinity which existed for a good many
centuries. The abbey was abolished by
