desired helpmate is sometimes lacking, for even the best
regulated appetite is apt to go wrong now and become
unreliable and fickle, and has to be humored and coaxed
to bring it back to that condition where all food is rel-
ished and eating becomes a pleasure. A hungry appetite
does not have to be feasted and feted, nor tempted with
dainty viands and delicacies. The plainest fare will
satisfy its cravings, while a sickly and defective appetite
will turn with loathing and disgust from the most sump-
egularity, and not only a good appetite is
assured, but sound digestion and refreshing sleep. S. S. S.

THERE ARE TO BE SOME RACES
The excitement in the neighborhgod
west at Oak Hill since the supposed
Levi murder, robbery and arson,
which occurred last Tuesday night,
has been very intense, and since the
circulation of the report that it was
very doubtful if the evidence against
Nosky, the accused, was sufficient to
justify an indictment by the grand
jury. It has reached fever heat The
feeling against the aged German farm-
er who is charged with the awful
crime is very intense, and. in fact. It
is openly talked that should Noaky be
released the people in that vicinity
would take the law in their own hands.
The officers give little heed to the
rash threats, but nevertheless they
are staylag on the safe side. Some
few men in the immediate neighbor-
hood of the acene of the crime are
very much wrought up about it and
are trying to agitate trouble. This
fact, connected with others, will well
justify investigation, and from what
was learned yesterday more than one
alibi will have to be proven before
the mystery is solved. The grand
jury will immediately take up the
case when it reconvenes tomorrow
morning, and the question among
those Interested IL "Will the evidence
the officers have against Nosky justify
the grand jury In indicting him for
murder, or will it order his release?"
Many believe that the circumstantial
evidence against him is Insufficient,
but then some of th* ofcers seem
confident that he will be indicted. A
number of witnesses have been sum-
moned in the case. In substance, tne
following is practically all the evi-
