that the old Oklahoma territory

its formal opening twenty-seven years
ago. The whole history of the Couch
family since the opening has been one
of blood. Captain Couch was shot and
killed. Abe Couch, another brother
of the accused, killed two of his
children in a fit of insanity, then killed
himself. Abe Couch’s wife had killed
herself three years previously.
