EXPERIENCE’
BY GEORGE V. HOBART
THE MOST WONDERFUL PLAY IN AMERICA
By JOSEPH F. PRITCHARD.
CHICAGO, Jan. 19.—Large quanti-
ties of wheat were sold by longs in
that market today, in order to secure
available profits. This heavy selling,
without new buying power, caused de-
clines of 11 to 2 % cents. These re-
cessions were in the face of the high
prices paid for No. 1 northern and
other choice varieties by millers.
It was said that Arthur Cutten was
possibly the largest seller of the grain
list, because he is due to arrive in
Pasadena on next Wednesday. It is
miore than likely that a big player like
Cutton will refuse to stay out of the
grain market at Chicago whether he
is in Pasadena or some other place on
the Pacific coast, as telegraphie com-
mvnication puts these speculators in
close touch with the wheat pit of the
Chicago board of trade.
HANCOCK 2 STARTING WED., JAN. 24

was able to do my work, but felt
badly all the time, feit weak and
nervous My i ead ached, my back
hurt and pained me all the time—
could hardly sleep at night and every
morning when I would get up I felt
dizzy and sluggish. . . .
I feel I owe my life to Cardui.
. . . Nothing ever cured me or
even helped me until I took Cardui.
I also took Black-Draught, too. It
seemed to cleanse my system so thor-
oughly and I felt so good after taking
it. I feel like a brand new woman.
. . I hope every woman who
suffers . . . will try Cardui. In
all I have taken six bottles of Cardui,
and it only cost me five dollars."
' Cardui may be the very medicine
you need for your troubles. Give it
a trial. At all druggists.
I will arrive in Austin within a few days, with head-
quarters at Driskill Hotel. First one guessing who I am
will receive 15.00 cash. Cut this ad out and enclose with
your name and address to M-3. care of Austin American.
Be sure and give date and time guess is mailed. First

ward Skillen is in that city and Cieorge
Marcy is on his ranch not far out of
Pasadena. There are other bright
[ lights of the grain world in the Golden
state and each train leaving Chicago
bears one or more grain traders to
the state where roses and not icicles
are in evidence.
Some of the. largest wheat handlers
in the United States were in attend-
ance upon the eighth annual meeting
of the council of grain exchanges and
as one man they favored the bull side
of the wheat market. Nathaniel Mof-
fitt. who is looked upon in tne grain
world as one of the most conservative
men in the trade, says there is a pos-
sibility of the May future becoming
terribly congested and that the man
who sells that month short at a big
discount under the cash will more
than likely regret his action sooner or
later.
John W. Snyder of Hammond, Sny-
der A Co., exporters of Baltimore,
says that in his opinion there will be
a shortage of wheat before another
crop is available. Mr. Snyder believes
Id higher price* for wheat. There
were many leaser lights on the board
of trade today and some of them be-
lieve that not only wheat, but corn and
oats must advance in price.
Following several days of advanc-
ing prices in wheat, th* decline of to-
day was not unexpected. The situation
is the same as it has been for some
time, with the supply and demand con-
ditions overbalancing all else. Alfred
Martin of th* Bartle tt- Frazier com-
pany says that in so far as he can
see, the buying side of wheat to th*
proper one for * long pull.
Corn suffered decline* of % to X %
cent. Considerable of this grain was
sold for the same reason that wheat
was sold—in order to secure profits.
Th* country sold a little more corn
and the eastern bids received at Chi-
cago were not as keen as for several
previous duys,
Oats were S to H cent lower, al-
though tha feeling was strong early in
the day.
The advance in th* price of hogs
at th* yards and the improved cash
trad* in lard were the strengthening
factors and the closing market was a
strong on*.
