Coach Berry M. Whitaker of th*
University of Texas is giving his
will-bes and has-beens strenuous
training in football every afternoon.
About 44 men are coming out who
will be eligible for the gridiron next
fall.
The men are given practice in
tackling the dummy, in passing and
catching, and in bucking the line in
scrimmage. Although a large num-
ber of good-ooking prospects are
out, Coach Whitaker will have much
trouble in replacing the many strong
veterans who fought for their last
time on the Varsity squad last fall.
Captain ‘'Swede" Swenson, the
huge and powerful center, is a
sound man t Build a-nund, but, ac-
cording to the coach, practically a
whole new Une, as well as tbs back
field. will have to be developed be-
fore next season.
Men who are out for football win
be given a chance to show their
ability in active playing in the
near future. Those who hre eligible
are divided into two teams. One
is captained by Tom Dennis of Cle-
burne, captain of the Varsity the
past year, and one by George Hill
of Fort Worth, president of the T
association These teams will meet
each other within the next few
weeks. ,ia
