PART I
What is "non-denominational Christianity"? simply
put, it is when a religious body of people are non-parti-
san and non-legislative. It is when this body of people
is not a fraction of anything, a part of anything. It
is when this group can reproduce in this century what
the Bible tells us took place in the church of the first

CAN A GROUP BE NON-DENOMINATIONAL?
Yes, a group of God-fearing people can imitate
what is found in the New Testament and thus be non-
denominational. The apostle Paul told the Thessalonian
citizens. For yourselves know how ye ought to imitate
US: tor We behaved not ourselves disorderly among
you...but to make ourselves and ensample unto you.
that ye should imitate us" (2 Thessalonians 3:7-9)’
Previously, Paul had stated, "And ye became imitators
of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in
much affliction (I Thessalonians 1:6) The Christians
at Corinth were also told, "Be ye imitators of me,
even as I am also of Christ" (I Corinthians 11:1). If
Christians in the time of Paul could imitate his obedi-
ence Of the Lord successfully, why can't we do so to-
day? We can and should!
Yes, we can be non-denominational since the princi-
ple of sowing and reaping is still valid. Jesus often
made a comparison between a person teaching religious
truth and a farmer sowing his seed. On one occasion,
Jesus declared simply that "the seed is the word of
God (Luke 8:11). By teaching this gospel in the first
century, non-denominational congregations were plant-
ed in cities such as Corinth, Antioch, Ephesus, Colos-
sae, Thessalonica, Rome, etc.
If people plant the same "gospel seed" today that
was sown by Paul and the other apostles, what will
happen? Will the same kind of crop come from the
same seed? Surely so, for nature teaches us this every
day. If we plant a peach seed, we get a peach tree!
This being true, sowing the pure gospel of Christ today
would cause congregations of Jesus1 kingdom (church)
to be established throughout the world, not congrega-
tions of differing denominations. The sowing of the
seed of the kingdom in the first century never produced
a denomination. Such sowing only produced churches
of Christ (Romans 16:16).

In usage today, a denomination means a g
people, all of whom believe and practice th
things, as distinguished from other such groups.
Denominations have, sometime in their history
met to decide what they shall believe, what they shall
teach and require of followers to believe, what they
shall do in work and worship, and what they shall be
called. These things are what make them different
themselves in name and practice. Without doing this
they would not be distinguishable from any other reli-
gious body. In so doing, they legislate rules, doctrines,
practices and organizations.
