The 36 year old Derringer, who
has spent 12 years in the majors—
—the last 10 with Cincinnati—will
team up with such likely right
hand starters as Claude Passeau,
Bill Lee, Lon Warneke, Les Flem-

Dick Barrett, 34-year-old veteran
of the minors obtained from Se-

Purchase Price $15,000 1 |
In announcing the purchase yes-
terday, James Gallagher, general
manager said, "We believe we have
a chance to go places this season
and we needed another pitcher.”
The purchase price was not dis-
closed, but some sources put it at
$15,000. ’ ,j.
Derringer, although bothered by
an old injury, appeared in 29
games last season, winning 10, los-
ing 11 and finishing with an earned
run average of 3.06. Before the
transaction was completed Man-
ager Jimmy Wilson, a former Cin-

said he was convinced the veteran
would turn out high class work for
at least another season.
