A Herald representative had
the pleasure this morning of meet
ing H. S. Ray assistant general
passenger agent of the Chicago &
Rock Island railroad with head-
auarters in bt. Louis. .Mr. Ray is
a most pleasant gentleman easily
approached and isan enthusiastic
admirer of the section traversed by
the Gulf Coast Line. He said his
present visit was to afford Mr.
Forrest Crissy who accompanied
him every opportunity to familiar-
ize himself with the remarkable
conditions and agricultural pos-
sibilities in this most favored sec-
tion of Texas. We did not meet
Mr. Crissy who was out on a voy
age of discovery but found Mr.
Ray nursing a well developed case
of rheumatism which confined him
to his car. Asked as to his opinion
of the Brownsville country Mr.
Ray said: "I might go on and talk
for the next two hours on the
wonderful resources and possibili
ties of this section but it would
be useless. You can just say I am
with them on the proposition and
am thoroughly in love with the
country and consider it the most
wonderful section of the universe."
Mr. Ray also said his guest Mr.
Crissy was very much delighted
and surprised beyond measure.
Mr. Crissy visited Matamoros and
will put in every minute of his
time in investigating the resources
of the country. " The party expects
to leave tomorrow evening for the
north.

COMFORTING WORDS.
The Good Citizen.
The good citizen is the man that
takes interest in his commuuity
and its institutions. He is a dose
student of the administration of
local affairs. He has profound
convictions on most of the issues
that arise and displays his sincerity
by his enthusiastic effort to make
his convictions prevail.
His value as a citizen is en-
hanced by the accuracy of the
judgment but it is not essential
that he should always be right. In
fact a man may frequently be
wrong and active in the promulga-
tion of his errors and yet be a
good citizen. He may be pastisan
take strong stands on questions
that split his community into
factions and yet be a good citizen.
On the other hand he is broad
enough not to impute dishonesty
or incapacity to those who are
equally active in opposing his
stand. He is in arms against his
opponent's policy not the man.
In other matters where there is no
issue between them and in all that
pertains to tne improvement and
progress of the community he
strikes hand with his opponent and
joins in the altogether pull towards
results that can be attained only
by union and co-operation.

all matters social' religious and
political we may be as separate and
disunited as the fingers on the
hand but in all that means the
upbuilding of our community as
united and inseparable as its palm

used Doan's Kidney Pills I was
for nearly two years troubled with
attacks of pain in my back. I
could scarcely get around during
the spells and had to lav off from
work for a week or two at a time.
I could not do any work that re
quired lifting or stooping for if I
did it caused a pain in my back

tried several remedies but was not
until I got Doan's Kidney Pills
