It’s That Time Again: School
Zones, Child Safety Tips
The time has come to be vigilant driving through school zones. No
cell phone use permitted in school zones! Remember to never pass a
school bus stopped with lights flashing. Fall is a good time to remind
children about good practices for all around safety. Very young children
may not comprehend what you are trying to teach them. Play acting or
“acting out” your message is a great way to make your child better
understand what you are trying to get across to them.
Tips for the kids:
♦Never go anywhere with a stranger or get in a stranger’s car. Teach
your kids “No, Go, Yell, Tell!
♦Never take food, candy, or any other gifts from a stranger, no matter
how nice they seem.
♦Do not pet a stranger’s animal, even if you are invited to do so.
♦You are a kid. A stranger should not ask you for help. If a stranger asks
you for help, get away from him/her as fast as possible. Tell a trusted
adult immediately.
♦If ANYONE ever makes you uncomfortable in any way, tell your par-
ent or another trusted adult immediately.
♦If a stranger tries to force you into their vehicle or force you to go any-
where with them, yell “No!” and fight as hard as you can to get loose.
Kick, scream and fight back. Run to a public place and keep running
until you find an adult who can help you. Remember: “No. Go, Yell,
Tell!”
♦When you are in a public place, always stay with your folks. Never
wander off by yourself.
♦Always play in groups of two or more if at all possible.
There are many more ways a child can be manipulated into harm’s
way that are not listed above. However, starting with these tips is a
great way to begin a conversation in your family about best practices
for staying safe from danger and child predators. By Lisa Hill

The current exhibit in the Long Barrack. “The
Alamo: A Story Bigger Than Texas.” will resume
once the Long Barrack reopens to the public. A few
of the items will go on temporary display in the
Shrine but the majority will be in secure storage until
the roof replacement project is complete. A fence
and scaffolding will surround the Long Barrack
through the duration of the re-roofing project.
Over the years, moisture has slowly collected
