Waste paper is such an ordinary thing
. . . yet it may help to save the life of
someone dear to you! For paper is play-
ing a vital role in the war today. It
makes containers for blood plasma, and
food rations; even parachutes to float
supplies down to hard-pressed troops
in hot corners.

Vegetable roots grow near the surface. They are tender, too.
When you cultivate them deeply, you injure the roots and slow
up growth. Shallow cultivation is the rule for gardens.

MANY NEVER
SUSPECT CAUSE
OF BACKACHES
This Old Treatment Often
Brings Happy Relief
Many sufferers relieve nagging backache
quickly, once they discover that the real cause
of their trouble may be tired kidneys.
. The kidneys are Nature's chief way of tak-
ing the excess acids and waste out of the blood.
They help, people pass aboutS pints a day.
When disorder of kidney function permits
poisonous matter to remain in your blood, it
may cause nagging backache, rheumatic
pains, leg pains, loss of pep and energy, get-
ting up nights, swelling, puffiness under the
eyes, headaches and dizziness. Frequent or
scanty passages with smarting and burning
sometimes shows there is something wrong
with your kidneys or bladder.
Don’t wait! Ask your druggist for Doan’s
Fills, used successfully by millions for over 40
years. They give happy relief and will help the
15 miles of kidney tubes flush out poisonous
waste from your blood. Get Doan’s Pills.

A drama packed musical which i
offers everything from symphonies
to circuses is MGM’s “Thousands
Cheer,” lively Technicolor tune-
fest spotlighting Gene Kelly and
Kathryn Grayson, John Boles,
Mary Astor and Jose Iturbi. at
the Plaza Theatre Thursday and
Friday.
Lively production numbers, skits
featuring Judy Garland, Eleanor
Powell, Red Skelton, Mickey Roon-
ey, Virginia O’Brien, Ann Sothern,
Lucille Ball and many others ap-
pear as guest stars highlight the
story of an army colonel’s daughter
who falls in love with a private in
the ranks.
As the officer’s dazzling daughter
lovely Kathryn Grayson turns in
the most important performance of
her screen career. Her style-setting
costumes are the handiwork of
Irene, famed fashion authority,
and Kathryn’s songs run the ga-
mut from operatic; arias to popular
ballads.
Making another long stride to-
ward stardom, Gene Kelly, already
bracketed as one of Hollywood’s
most promising and popular lead-
ing men, is seen as Kthryn’s ro-
mantic but recalcitrant doughboy.

sical, the celebrated conductor-
pianist, Jose Iturbi, makes his in-
itial film appearance. Iturbi plays
himself in the picture and adds to
its tune filled sequences several or-
chestral numbers and piano solos.
Mary Astor, as Kthryn’s mother,
and John Boles, marking his re-
turn to the screen as her army
colonel father, round out the fea-
tured cast of the film. They, how-
ever, by no means complete the
roster of stellar entertainers lime
lighting the production. In one of
the most spectacular sequences of
the story, an USO show at an ar-
my camp, Judy Garland gives out
with a peppery boogie-woogie re
frain in which she is accompanied
by Iturbi at the piano.
