received their new uniforms which

Only one of the carnival tents
was open last night but it is ex
pected that the entire show will be
open tonight. There are seven
tents included in the show. All
are said to be first clrss attractions.

The Brownsville Library Asso
ciation has made arrangements to
open the library as soon as the
books can be received and properly
catalogued. Arrangements have
been made to order several hun-
dred books which will include
many of the late popular novels
besides other standard works. It
has been decided to sell member
ships in the library at $2.00 per
year which will entitle member??
to iead at least fifty-two good'
books during the year. Member
ship tickets will be printed at once
and placed on sale and it is honed

that all who are interested in the
library will lose no time in buying
tickets. A nice idea would t
present library tickets as Christ
mas gifts.
.It is learned from Andrew
Johnson of Mercedes that Doctor
F. Grosshauser of Lodi Cal.
who was here several days ago
has bought 240 acres near Mer
cedes and will establish a
vard there. ' Dr. Grosshauser and
wife left Mercedes today for Cali-
fornia to make arrangements for
removing to Texas and will return
in about two months. The doctor
will plant sixty acres of his land
in grapes this winter.
A number of the young ladies
have undertaken to give a leap
year dance at some date early in
the new year in which they will be
assisted by their married friends.
A meeting was held yesterday
afternoon at the opera house at
hich preliminary arrangemeats
were made and committees ap
pointed. The exact date is hot yet
decided upon.
