Dear Mary Jean:
You did me quite a favor in noticing omissions and errors made
in the statement that I handed to you the other day before you left. This
was drawn up hurriedly and caused me to go into the matter more
thoroughly, after discovering errors made by me.
I am sending you herewith statement of the number of shares
held and dividends for each year in H. Kempner, Sugarland Industries,
City Stevedoring Company, The Bertig Company, Texas Imperial Co.
(which is ex Imperial Sugar Company), and Merchants and Planters
Compress and Warehouse Company. From all of this you will be able
to tell the amount of stock you own in the various corporations, the
amount that you still owe Merchants and Planters Compress and Ware-
house Company and a statement showing the amounts and dates of pay-
ments of four quarterly dividends of Sugarland Industries in 1953. As
Sugarlancrndustries is capitalized at $50. 00 a share, the $3. 00 per
share is actually a dividend of 6%.
The Merchants and Planters Compress and Warehouse Company
is capitalized at 50, 000 shares at $1. 00 per share but a paid-in surplus
of 50' per share was made, making practically 32% on the par value of
$1. 00 per share or around 21% on the paid-in price of $1. 50 per share.
You have received dividends in 1953 as follows:
H. Kempner $ 3,000.00
Sugarland Industries 3, 968. 00
City Stevedoring Company 1, 000. 00
Texas Imperial Company 1, 805.44
In addition to this, you received a dividend from M. & P. of $2, 000. 00
which was applied on your note but which still leaves you a balance due
of $3, 375. 00. I question very much whether any dividend will be paid
in 1954.
You asked a question as to the combined value of H. Kempner
and Sugarland Industries stock.*1
