Hereford High School defeated El
Paso Coronado 49-31 on Saturday in
the consolation game of the Amarillo
Invitational Girls’ Tournament.
Earlier on Saturday, Hereford’s
varsity girls scored a 76-66 victory
over El Paso Jefferson. In their first-
round game on Friday, the Lady
Whitefaces lost to Palo Duro 55-45.
Hereford, which is now 3-5 for the
season, plays at Clovis today at 6:30
p.m. A junior varsity game is
scheduled for 8 p.m.
In the consolation game on Satur-
day. Hereford held a 20-17 halftime
lead and then built its lead to 34-21 in
the third quarter enroute to the 49-31
win over El Paso Coronado.
Cande Robbins, who scored eight
points in the first half, led Hereford
with 13 points. Also scoring in double
figures was Stacy White, who scored
a pair of three-point goals in the first
half and finished the game with 10
points.
Robbins also led Hereford in re-
bounds with 10. Jeanette Mumau
grabbed eight rebounds. Kathy Ban-
ner had seven rebounds, and White
had six rebounds. White had four
assists.
The Lady Whitefaces, as a team,
had 44 rebounds and 12 assists.

Hereford had 24 team assists, in-
cluding eight by Kahlich and seven
by White. Hereford’s rebound total
was 58, led by White with 14 and Rob-
bins with 12.
Brockman was the lone scorer in
double figures, with 10 points, in
Hereford’s 55-45 loss to Palo Duro.
Hereford had 50 rebounds as a team,
including 12 by Bell, 11 by Brockman
and 10 by Mumau.
White scored a three-point goal in
each of Hereford’s first two tourna-
ment games.
"Other than the game against Jef-
ferson, our defense was good,”
Hereford Coach Frank Belcher said.
"Even in the Palo Duro game. I

team lost to Amarillo High 57-35.
Amarillo High outscored Hereford
21-4 in the second period. The
Whitefaces, with the loss, dropped to
1-2 for the season. They will play in
the El Paso Tournament on Friday

The scores were 46-38 in the ninth
grade contest, 40-16 in the eighth
grade game, and 38-24 in the seventh
grade battle.
La Plata's season records are:
seventh grade. 0-3; eighth grade. 0-2;
and ninth grade. 1-2. The Maverick
teams will play in the Hereford tour-
naments on Thursday. Friday and

good inside for us. Tricia Kahlich did
a good job defensively and handling
the ball.
"Susan Bell did a good job defen-
sively most of the tournament. Bran-
di Binder was injured in the last
game, but she stepped in and hit key
shots for us in the first two games.”
Coach Belcher adds.
Later this week, the Hereford var-
sity girls will play in the Clayton
Orange and Black Classic at Clayton.
N.M. Hereford plays Des Moines on
Thursday in a first-round game.
