A freeze damaged the crop
Noting interest in the regional
effort, State Rep. Bob Glaze of
Gilmer, said ‘The shortage of
funds makes us take a hard look
at where that money is going
and serious work in getting the
most for it without jeopardizing
the safety and protection of
■ abused children."
“We need to dedicate this ef-
fort to Child Abuse Prevention
month”, said one task force mem-
ber. “We all know that the bud-
get crunch has hurt the efforts of
our state agencies and our non-
profits. If we can provide a real-
istic way to care for our children
within the limitations of our
funds, we will have done every-
one a service”.
Wandering work force has families under stress
The war between Wall Street and Main Street is just
about over.
Last Friday, for those who are skeptical of the fact (it’s not
a conspiracy theory) that the Federal Reserve System (a.k.a.
“the Fed") runs the economic affairs of this country, another
piece of evidence was thrust in their faces.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 171 points on
news from government statisticians that more than 700,000
new jobs had been created in a single month.
Aside from the fact that the statistics may be inaccurate .
or most of the jobs may be either part-time or temporary, the
“good news* still rocked the all-important bond market
(specifically, the trading in 30-year U.S. Treasury bonds).
This, market analysts mused, meant that the Fed’s Open
• Market Committee, which sets monetary policy, will likely
not vote to lower short-term interest rates (the so-called
Federal Funds Rate) when they gather together later this
month.
Talk show potentate Rush Limbaugh admitted that the
Fed runs the country and expressed puzzlement at its policy
of squidching economic growth in a firantic effort to stave off
what are almost nonexistent “inflationary pressures.”
What he won’t admit is that the Fed and the global corpo-
rations bear any responsibility for the underemployment and
wage stagnation eating away at the country’s formerly vast
indicate. ments one year ago of $110.9 onUpshurCountypeachtrees,

cades to fight the good fight on behalf of corporate greed.
We haven't heard such a spirited defense of the “greed is
good” doctrine since the Gordon Gekko character played by
Michael Douglas uttered that very line in the movie “Wall
Street.”
Whenever the pundits circle the wagons to accuse
Buchanan of wanting to “build a wall around America," he
should respond that it’s already been done. This “Wall
Street" has completely imprisoned the citizens of the U.S.
Say goodnight, Main Street America. You've been in the
“Twilight Zone” for a couple of decades. Now you’re being
shown the door to the “Outer Limits” by the Limbaughs of
the media.
As he says, if you don’t like your present circumstances,
move! So much for family values as Americans become
increasingly like a vast herd of Middle Eastern nomadic
tribesmen. Pursue “EaM”—Excellence in Migration.
As evidence grows that the Great One may need to untie
