vices for David Keith
Tankersley, 45, of Gladewa-
ter were held on March 2 at 11
a.m. in the Gladewater First
Baptist Church with Dr. Roy
Taylor and the Rev. Paul
Rucker officiating.
Burial followed in Gladewa-
ter Memorial Park under the
direction of Stone-Goodwin
Funeral Home of Gladewater.
Mr. Tankersley died
Wednesday, Feb. 28, at his
home in Gladewater.
Born Sept. 6, 1950, in
Lamesa, Texas, he had been a
resident of Gladewater since
1983, moving from Comanche,
Texas.
He was a seventh and
eighth grade science teacher
and coach in Gilmer schools
from 1993 until his death.
From 1983 to 1993 he had
been a coach and teacher in
Gladewater schools and
served as principal of Gay
Avenue School and assistant
principal of Gladewater
Middle School.
He was a Baptist and at-
tended First Baptist Church
in Gladewater. Mr.
Tankersley received his bach-
elor of science and master of
education degrees from
Tarleton State University and
held an administrator’s certi-
fication.
Survivors include his wife,
Latricia Tankersley of
Gladewater; two sons, David
Dalton Tankersley and Tan-
ner Lynn Tankersley, both of
Gladewater; sister and
brother-in-law, Ruth Ann and
Steve Lackey of Grand Prai-
rie; mother and father, Ken-
neth and Ruthie Tankersley
of Comanche; mother and fa-
ther-in-law, Lynn and Peggy
Bostick of Gladewater; sisters
and brothers-in-law, Vickie
and Joe Sexton and Rhonda
and Mark Kirbo of Gladewa-
ter; nieces and nephews,
Michelle Kirbo of Gladewater,
Tandi and Mitchell Lackey of
Grand Prairie, and Krystal
Evridge of Grand Prairie.
He was preceded in death
by an infant son, Jarrod
Chance Tankersley, in 1989.
Pallbearers were Larry
Bailey, Jack Murphy, Victor
Bird, Roy Mayfield, Jim Heath
and Jeff Rowe.
Honorary pallbearers were
his fellow coaches from Gilmer
and Gladewater schools.
A scholarship fund has been
established at First Service
Bank in Gladewater for
Dalton, age 5, and Tanner, age
3.
