The Mt. Pleasant Cubs, main-
taining a 5 to 3 lead at the be-
ginning of the eighth inning
Thursday, dropped the North-
east Texas Amateur League game
at Sulphur Springs by a score of
8 to 5. The Eagles picked up five
runs off five hits in their half of
the eighth.
The Cubs were closer to a vic-
tory in the game than they have
been in several weeks. They
were on their toes all the way
without a single error charged
against them. The Eagles crashed
on through for a win despite five
misplays.
The box score was as follows:
MOVIES AR THAN EVER
The Cubs can come closer than
any team we’ve known of for
some time. Last night, they had
the Sulphur Springs club beaten
until a series of events took the
game from them. The fellows
just seem to be wearing out a
streak Of bad luck, and when it
does change for the better kind
of luck, we’re looking for them
to keep on going, right up to the
end of the season. However, it’s
still hard for the fans to take
these setbacks, as well as it is for
the players. There isn’t any ques-
tion about their trying to win;
it’s just that they haven't hit the
stride that’ll bring ’em out on
the long end of the score.
Sunday, the Cubs will have the
Sulphur Springs team for com-
pany, and we’re going to make
the move and pick the Cubs to
win. We’re doing this because
we’ve almost got a cinch. You
fans who saw the little pitcher
we had against Gilmer know
What we mean when We say that
he has got the stuff. The pitcher
Sunday will be Ray Tucker, the
little fellow with so much stuff,
and with the team working the
way they have been, well, we’re
picking ’em to start winning
right here at home. There have
been a number of changes in the
team, and with the new eligible
additions to the roster, it’s al-
most a cinch.
Any of you sports fans who are
going to be able to go to the
track meet in Dallas tomorrow
should get enough of that type of
of sport to satisfy you for a long
time. At least until next year.
The Big Seven will be trying to
win from the Southwest, and
from the looks of things it will
really be okay. The meet will be
held at Dal-Hi stadium, and there
will be enough “stars” to go
around. The mile relay is begin-
ning to look like the event that
will be the deciding factor in the
meet. So, if any of you are in
Dallas, try to see that meet.
We haven’t heard much more
about this independent team

TO MY FRIENDS OF
TITUS COUNTY:
There comes a time in the life
of every man when he must
make a decision that effects him-
self and his family and his fu-
ture. That time has come in my
life. I have been offered a posi-
tion with one of the best insur-
ance companies, and one which
will mean a lot to me and to my
family. I can never begin to
thank you sufficiently for the
great interest you have shown in
my race for Sheriff of Titus
County, I shall never forget the
nice things you have said and
the assurance you have given me
that I would be elected Sheriff.
As much as I would like to be
the Sheriff of Titus County, I
feel that the thing for me to do
is to accept the position with the
insurance copany. So, I am re-
luctantly withdrawing from the
Sheriff’s race with a million
thanks and heart-felt gratitude
to the people of Titus County.
Respectfully,
Alvis Redfearn
