mas trees did not become famous
till recently outside of Germany,
and even in Germany it was not
widespread till the beginning of
the Nineteenth Century. The
Christmas tree is completely
Christian in origin. It stands as
a symbol and reminder that our
Lord is the “Tree of Life,” and'
the “Light of the World.” Its
many individual lights might be
explained as symbols of His divine 1
and human virtues. The glitter-
ing decorations indicate His great
glory. The fact that it is ever-
green is an ancient symbol of eter-
nity. The Christmas tree should
proclaim the message of holy litur-
gy which has inspired its origin:
The Light of Christ.

presents. But on December 25 it
is the Christ Child Himself, the
Gift of gifts, the glorious present
from God the Father to His fallen
children, in Whose name we give
and receive our gifts.
