By JANIE F. FLETCHER
County H. D. Agent
From the sunny fragrant or-
chards not too far from us comes
good news for lovers of juicy
pears. This year the crop is not
only large, but the fruit is sweet
and delicious.
Homemakers may find their
bartlett pears are still a bit green
when purchased. In this case they
should be kept at room tempera-
ture until ripe and then refriger-
ated. With fresh pears so plenti-
ful, it is time to make those spark-
ling jams, preserves, marmalades
and butters which are so much
enjoyed during the fall and winter
months. They form a perfect
combination with hot biscuits,
rolls or toast.
Pears combine well with other
fruits, with spice or with honey.
