won. Clark W. Thompson House Office Building Washington, D. C. ky dear Clark: Thanks for yours of the 12th. The data that you passed on from the Bureau of Internal Revenue regarding estate taxes is both interesting and illuminating. I venture the statement that if the Ways and Means Committee or the Bureau would invite a studied estimate of three or four of the most active tax consultants in private practice the result would be that the cost of checking, compromising, litigating and finally collecting estate taxes would be many, many times 59# for each 1OO.OO collected. However, Clark, please do not bother Judge Combs further in the matter. he knows my views and I am sure has given them what weight he thinks should be accorded them. I realize that he, you or any other congessman cannot move a committee to adopt the various phases of tax levies that may be submitted to them. By no means need you call yourself or act "as a promoter of letters from the Judge". With kindest regards, Cordially yours,
