The trip to Rio Vista on Thursday 01-03-12 would be successful
for all three Zebra boys basketball teams and “wrap” up the holiday
break. The JVB would score double digits in three of the four peri-
ods (15, 12, 20,). First period Brenden Ellestad came on strong with
10 points and those contributing to the remainder of the first period
points were Alec Pena, JD Cormier and Tyler Rosser. Going into the
second half with a lead of 27 to 14 the Zebras would add an addi-
tional 25 points to the board, while the Eagles tacked on 12 more to
finish the game Zebras 52, Eagles 26. In the fourth there were steals
from Rosser to Livingston and Rosser to Clark resulting in scores
and passes from Ellestad to Blackwell to complete the assists/scores.
The JVB also were 47% from the free throw line, completing 8 of 17
attempts. Scoring big for the night was Brenden Ellestad with 18
points (4-2’s, 2-3’s, 4FT), Kory Davis 7 (2-2’s, 1-3), Levi Livingston
7(1-2, 1-3, 2FT), Henry Blackwell 6 (3-2’s), Alec Pena 6 (3-2’s), JD
Cormier 3 (1-2, 1FT), Tyler Rosser 3 (1-2, 1FT), and Tucker Clark 2
(1-2).
JVA would score 22 in the first half and 29 in the second half to
beat the Eagles 51 to 31. Going into the half the Zebras would have
a short lead of 22-16 and both teams would score an additional 11
points in the third, keeping the Zebras short lead of just 6 points at
the close of the third (33-27). The fourth period is when the team
came alive scoring 18 offensive points, while the defensive refused
to allow the Eagles a bucket, scoring their only 4 points through the
free throw line. Levi Livingston, Brenden Ellestad and Tyler Rosser
would play double duty this night playing for both the A and B
teams. Logan Breton would hit the court running this night, playing
hard offensively and defensively, coming away with a clean slate of
no fouls, yet scoring 18 points! (6-2’s, 2-3’s), Devin Crawford 7 (3-
2’s, 1FT), Brenden Ellestad 6 (1-2, 1-3, 1FT), Jerrin Roller 6 (3-2’s),
Beck Lee 5 (2-2’s, 1FT), Conner Newman 4 (4FT), Levi Livingston
3 (1-3), and Wade O’Banion 2 (1-2).
Foul Play
The Varsity game would have multiple fouls resulting in 65 free
throw attempts between the two teams. The Zebras would complete
14 of 26, while the Eagles would complete 24 of 39 attempts. The
Zebras would end the first period 3 points wider the Eagles 21-18.
The Zebras would trail as much as 8 points to the Eagles before tak-
ing control of the game, with back to back steals by Stewart, fol-
lowed by a three point shot by Stewart with 4:15 left in the second
period would put the Zebras ahead for the first time, 3 1 -30. The lead
would see-saw for the next three minutes, but with just over a minute
in the half the Zebras would take the lead (38-36) and never relin-
quish to the Eagles the remainder of the game. The Zebras would
score 18 points in periods 1,3, and 4 and 26 points in die 2nd peri-
od. Going into the half up 44 to 39, the Zebras 36 additional second
half points would allow them to finish this win 80-71. Scoring for
the Zebras were Stephen Stewart 21 (4-2’s, 4-3’s, 1FT), Ryan Breton
21 (3-2’s, 4-3’s, 3FT), Jamon Martinez 18 (6-2’s, 6FT), Jordy
Massey 8 (3-2’s, 2FT), Dom DiBenedetto 5 (2-2’s, 1FT), L. Jackson
