Even though Gary Nunn was born in Newport.
Arkansas in 1953. he calls Grandview his native
home. That is because Gary's parents. Robert and
Florence Nunn moved the family to Grandview in
1955 in order to work at the fiberglass factory which
was located at the present site of what is now
Universal Forest Products on Hwy' 81.

Residing in Grandview as a young boy set the stage
for a love of small town living. Gary shares memo-
ries of his folks. He said “My Dad was a WWII
Anny Veteran. He saw combat in the South Pacific.
He was a no-nonsense guy. a family man and an
entrepreneur. My Dad enjoyed being on various city
boards in Cleburne and loved to follow politics.’
Gary then commented on his mother, saying “My
Mom was beautiful, caring, sensitive and wonderful.
She worked hard all of her life and was definitely the
matriarch of our family.” He added “I have two sib-
lings. a sister Gloria, who graduated from
Grandview High School in 1969 and married Jim
Markum the same year. They live in Cleburne. My
younger brother. Richard also lives in Cleburne with
his wife. Rose.
Gary lived in Grandview from 1955 to 1969 until
his father relocated the family to Cleburne. Gary
fondly recalls wonderful memories of living in
Grandview. He said “we lived on Bois D Arc Street
and I would ride my bicycle all over town. My broth-
er and I watched 1-35 being built and we would play
on the tractors and earth moving equipment after the
workmen went home. When I was twelve. I went
from mowing yards to working at Carters Grocery
Store sacking groceries on Saturdays. Mr. Carter
would let me deliver groceries in his 1948 Chevrolet
pick-up (with kick-starter in the floor). No driver’s
license of course. It just didn’t seem to be a big deal
in Grandview at that time not to have a driver’s
license.” SEE NUNN PAGE 6
