Jaycees sponsored a Safe Driv-
ing program to Mills County
school students last Thursday.
The film and short address
were presented by the Texas
Department of Public Safety
Thursday morning at Goldth-
waite and Mullin Schools and
at Star and Priddy in the af-
ternoon. The program was on
the hazards of speeding, drink-
ing and reckless driving.
Safety Patrolman Bob wu-

program. He was accompanied
by Sgt. Tanner of Lampasas
The officers were presented
to the schools by Jaycee Presi-
dent Carl Davis and Deputy
Sheriff Bobby Lee Wilcox.

tenth special Soil Conservation
edition of the Eagle to be pub-
lished on Thursday, May 27, it
was announced this week The
announcement was made by
members of the Eagle staff and
Elgin Smith, supervisor of the
local work unit. Soil Conserva-
tion Service
Members of the Eagle staff,
members of the Soil Conserva-
tion Service and a number of
other Interested individuals will
take part in preparing material
for this special edition.

The Mullin Public Schools
will observe Open House all
week and on Thursday after-
noon at 2:15 p m., there will be
a Chapel Program. Supt. Rufus
A. Carr stated that everyone is
invited to the program and to
visit classes during the week
-The Bi-District girls basket-
ball game, first in regional play,
between the Goldthwaite Eag-
lettes and the Baird girls, will
be played next Monday, March
1. at 7:30 p. m. The game is
scheduled for the Brownwood
Junior High School Gym, which
until recently was known as
the High School Gym.
The 9-A champs, coached by
Jackie Williams, swept through
district play without a single
defeat, and their season record
has only one blemish.
In preparation for the game
with Baird the Eaglettes will
play a practice game on the
home court this Friday, Febru-

San Antonio Show
Mills County 4-H Club mem-
bers took several places with
their steer exhibits at the San
Antonio Livestock Show last
week, according to County Ag-
ent George Reese
David and Karen Horton
had 1st place and 4th place
light weight Hereford steers in
the open show.
Larry Schwartz had 3rd place
heavy weight Angus steer in
the Junior Show.
Rhonda Cook had 3rd place
light weight Hereford in the
Junior show.
Mark Daniel showed a heavy
weight Hereford to 10th place
in the Junior show
Several other places were
won by county 4-H club mem-
bers.

On Sports Show
Johnny Hammond. a member
of the ALL CENTRAL TEXAS
Football team, will be honored
on the Dub King Sports Show
this Saturday afternoon. Feb-
ruary 27. according to announ-
cement by Coach Jackie Wil-
liams. The program can be
viewed on Channel 6. Temple.
Hammond is a Senior at
Goldthwaite High School and
he quarterbacked the Eagles to
the Bi-District championship
last fall. He was also a member
of the 9-A All-District offen-

Filing Deadline
Is March Fourth
Next Thursday, March 4, is
the last day on which candi-
dates may file for the school
trustee election and have their
names printed on the official
ballots Filing deadline is 30
days before the election which
is scheduled for Saturday,
April 3.
Three trustees are to be
elected to the board from Gold-
thwaite. Mullin, Star and Prid-
dy school districts. Two mem-
bers will be elected to the
county school board, one from
precinct three and one from at
large
Candidates must file with
County Judge Cecil Egger
Names may be placed on the
official ballot by the candidate
signing up in person or by peti-
tion signed by five regularly
qualified voters of the respec-
tive district
Candidates nominated by pe-
tition also must sign the affi-
davit for candidate for public
office in the office of the coun-
ty Judge 30 days before the
election in order for the names
to be placed on the official
ballot.

Former Durenville
To Open Saturday
With Open Houae
Mr. and Mrs. Troy Brown and
Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Strickland
will open the cafe and service
station, formerly known as
Durenville, on highway 84, this
week Saturday, February 27,
with a formal opening and
open house activities.
The cafe will be operated by
Mrs. Brown and Mrs Strick-
land under the firm name of
Neva and Ruth’s Cafe.
They will have free coffee
and cup cakes all day Saturday
for visitors to the formal open-
ing.
Mr Brown and Mr. Strick-
land will operate the station
under the firm name, Friendly
Service Station.
There will be favors for visi-
tors to the open house all day
Saturday of this week
Mr. and Mrs. Strickland re-
cently moved to Goldthwaite
from Comanche They both
have had experience in operat-
ing a cafe business and as cafe
cooks.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown have
been Goldthwaite residents. Mr.
Brown was employed for sev-
eral years in county commis-
sioner’s precinct four and
worked before that at Barnes
& McCullough. Mrs. Brown has
been cook in local cafes.
