Each of the graduates won deserved
honors in their assigned parts on the
program of exercises, and were re-
warded in their efforts- by liberal
applause and other testimonials of
regard and friendship.
A feature of the entertainment was
the selections by “Paul’s” orchestra.
The stage was elaborately decorated
for the occasion and the entire program
as published in last week’s NEwS was
rendered without an exception and
withal in a manner pleasing to the
public and with credit to teachers and
pupils.
The exceptionally large attendance
demonstrated the interest of our people
in the cause of education and the
universal wish to encourage by their
presence the youth of our land with

' shire and Sealy will cross bats on the
local diamond Sunday afternoon. Game
will be called at 3:30. All who enjoy
the sport will be well entertained if

New Enterprise for Sealy.
Mr. W. E. Garvey, of the staff of
teachers of the famous Draughon’s
Practical Business Colleges, is in the
city this week making, preparations for.
opening a branch school in Sealy, on
Monday, June 3rd, 1912. The Sealy
school will be under the jurisdiction of
the Houston staff, and students in
Sealy and vicinity have identically the
same opportunities for learning, under
just as able instructors right here at
home as they would receive by going to
the larger cities, and at about one-half
the expense. Anyone contemplating
attending business college will consult
their own best interests by seeing Mr.
Garvey atNew Sass Hotel, Sealy. He
will be pleased to give you full
particulars.
Tri-County Summer Normal.
The Teachers of Austin, Washington
and Grimes Counties will unite to hold
their Normal in the. Blinn College at
Brenham; Both Series will be given,
begining June 4, and ending August 1.
There will be a faculty of seven with
Prof. Gus. F. Urbantke as conductor.
Mr. Euutwell, of Sealy, is the Austin
Cbunty representative in the faculty.
Each teacher is a Specialist in his
department and a successful and ex-
perienced teacher in Public School and

wood yard business to Messrs, J. D.
Preddy & Son. Mr. Preddy senior is
of Richmond but will move to Sealy as
soon as possible. His son has been
here for some time, as proprietor of
the pool bsll, which he has sold for the
purpose of engaging in the fuel busi-

Miss Louise Ludwig,, of Sealy, won
second prize for out of Brenham con-
teatants. This prize was a piano. She
also received two special prizes, a
kodak and a leather traveling bag, for

Rev. W. J. David is in Bellville this
week in a revival meeting. He re-
quests the News by postal to announce
that Rev. J D. Hall will preach at the
Healy Baptist church next Sunday
morning and evening at the usual

Decoration Day at the Sealy

upon for Sunday, Xay 26th; Aime of

All’at the Novelty.
Yesterday .morning the cottage be-
longing to Mr. J. J. Hluchan, situated
on the corner of First and Fowlkes
streets, just north of the Katy railway
tracks, was destroyed by fire. The
building tene tenantless at the time
and the origin of the fire is unknown.
The cottage formerly belonged to Post-
master W. F. Viereck and was in-
sured for 8500.00. These papers had
been properly transferred to the
present owner. Mr. Hlucban is a
farmer living in the San Felipe com-
munity. When the alarm was sounded
the building was all in flames and it
was impossible to save it. However
many rushed to the scene and did all
in their power to check the flames and
by their efforts prevented (further
destruction. For these efforts Mr.
Hluchan requests the News to tender
his sincere,thanks to everyone.
The Basket Ball girls, accompanied
by Mr. Boutwell and Mt. Whitfield,
went to Brookshire Tuesday for a
game. The Healy crowd were royally
entertained by the Brookshire rooters.
At the close of the game the crowd was
given a reception by Mrs. McAlister
After some very amusing games by
the young people delicious refresh-
ments were served. " t
While the girls spent a, very pleasant
day, the game itself was a disappoint-
ment The Healy girls were too small
for their opponents. Two of the
Brookshire girls, playing guard and
goal, were responsible for the uneven
score. The official score stood 39 to 4.
The Sealy girls hope to bolster up their
fast light-weights and give the Brook-

day morning the writer’s attention was
called to this by Station Agent A. B.
Lamb, who was acting as paymaster to
the 78 men who this month drew their
pay checks st Sealy. The cheeks
called for an aggregate sum of
33,923 59.
