THE FORT WORTH RECORD: TUESDAY, MORNING, JULY 28, 1908.
universal peace conference, organised |
by the Society of Friends, assembled
at Canton hall here today. Over 100
societies in sixteen different countries
are in attendance. Edwin M Mead and
Benjamin F. Trueblood were prominent
among the American delegation. The
bishop of Carlisle, president of the con-
gress, i opening his address, said:
"Nothing has Impeded national pros-
perity so much as partisan strife and
blind antagonism. They were told to
think imperially, but a rider was need-
ed—let them not act imperially."
King Edward and Queen Alexandra
received the delegates at Buckingham
palace at noon. The delegates pre-
sented an address to which the king
replied as follows:
"It give* me great pleasure to wel-
edme you. the representatives of the
universal congress of peace, and to re-
ceive your address. There is nothing
from which I derive more sincere grati-
fication than from the knowledge that
my efforts in the cause of interna-
tional peace and good will will have
not been without friut and a conscius-
ness of the generous appreciation with
which they have been received, both
from my own people and from those of
other countries.
"Rulers of state can set before them-
selves no higher aim than the promo-
tion of international good understand-
ing and cordial friendship among the
nations of the world. It is the surest
and most direct means by which hu-
manity may be enabled to realise its
mObles ideal and its attainment will
ever be my constant endeavor. I re-
joice to think that your international
organization, in which are represented
all the principal civilised countries of
ths world, is laboring in the same field
and I pray that the blessin* of God
may attend your labors."
The delegtes afterward were intro:
duced to the king and Queen, both of
whom shook hands with eash.dnleKat:
and spoke a few words, evidencing the
keen personal interest taken by their
wmleatle* in the work of the congress.

Had Gotten Divorce From Her Tea
Year® Previous.
Washington Times.
Cupid probably never cut a more pe-
culiar caper than he did a few days
ago at Newport, Ky., when he brought
together for a second matrimonial voy-
age a couple that had been married
and divorced ten years before, without
th® bridegroom recognising in hisnew-
found love his former partner in the
lottery of love.
The announcement of th® marriage
of Frank Hassank and Mary Edwards
at Newport revealed this remarkable
romance. For ix months Hassank
courted Mary Edwards and did not
know until after the wedding that she
was the wife he divorced in Kirksville.
Mo., ten years ago.
Both were residents of KIrksville
at the time of their first marriage.
Hassank obtained a divorce, after a
quarrel, and five or six years ago Mrs.
Hassank went to_ Newport, where she
has been making her home with
friends.
Four years ago she was married to
John Edwards, but he died six months
after the wedding. -The widow retained
his name, but dropped the "Mrs.” Ha®
sank happened to be there on a visit
a little more than a year ago. He met
his former wife at a dance, but she
had bleached her hair and he did not
know her. He fell in lov® with her
the second time, and everything else
was easy for the love bug.
Mrs. Edwards recognized her former
husband but saw that he did not know
who she was. She thought it a good
joke, espectaHy as he had applied for
the divorce, and decided to keeD him
in ignorance for a time. But when she
got ready to tell, she, too, waB in 1ove
again with Hasasnk and was afraid to
inform him. fearing he might refuse to
see her again and thus stop the wed-
ding bells.
A few minutes after the wedding
ceremony she revealed hex identity to
her second-tme husband, but he de-
cided that he would stand for it They
agreed to let bygones be bygones and
begin all over again.
It is said that the two probably will
go back to Kirksville to live in th®
home where they spent their first
honeymoon. ___

Speaks of.the Situation.
City of Mexico, July 27.—Dr. Alberto
Membre, a member of the cabinet ot
President Manuel Bonilla, while the
latter was president of Honduras, de-
clares that the revolution in that re-
public is not at an end as reported.
He declares that Manuel Bonilla had
nothing to do with the uprising, which
is a popular one and will continue un-
til the Da villa government is ovar-
thrown. In his opinion intervention
will be a check tv the movement. He
declares that reports that President
Cabrera is involved in the insurrection
are without foundation.__

She reached her- home; her mother
was visiting at a neighbor s house, but
in a half conscious condition she threw
herself across the bed and when her
mother returned home she received the
startling news from her daughter, who
immediately became unconscious and
remained in that condition for several
hours afterward. Every man and boy
in that section of the country armed
themselves and started in pursuit of
the negro The officers at this place
were notified and located the negro
last night at another negro’s home
about three miles from the Delancey
home. , ,
Mobs of excited and anxious people
had congregated at many points in the
country, at Caddo Mills and on the
streets of Greenville and at this hour,
2 a. m., are still on the streets, if th*
negro is brought here, there will cer-
tainly be a lynching before day ight.
The same thing will occur if the mob
in the country secures poasesclon of
the negro. Some of the officers, it 8v
thought, escaped from the mob while
Sheriff Hemsell and other officers
tried to get the people to disband and
go home. The excited people here Wore
not satisfied when Deputy Sheriff Will
Scott told them tonight that the negro
had not been brought to jail ane were-
not satisfied until some of the mob
were allowed to search the jail and
city calaboose. _____
