ar opening steady. at unchanged prices,
the coffee market became somewhat
irregular later Trading was far .from
general, comparatively' small orders
auaing alight fluctuations Prices dur-
ing the early afternoon were not five
points higher on September, but five
polnta lower on July, and otherwise
net unchanged
Bales tor ths first half of the day
were 7.000 baga, most of which was for
May delivery at 6.850, and July at 6,350.
These prices represented a decline from
the recent high level of about 30040
points.
The selling was supposed to be most-
ly in the way of liquidation by scatter-
ing long* with demand partly f •• cov-

from the leading trade interests, who
are supposed to be in controLofthe
very poor and bids not up to the ex-

"Tuesday's cattle market had a dull,
sluggish movement with a weak under-
tone that ended 5c to a dime lower on
moit grades of steerg; cows were alow
at steady prices and" calves advanced,
sty, a quarter.
Receipts of cattle for Tuesday con-
sisted principalky of through stuff,
there being 115 cars of steers for pas-
ture and 57 cars of cattle of all sorts
for the market. In addition there were
14 cars of calves on through billing.
Total receipt* reached 8,500, of which
1.100 were calves. Receipts a weak
ago were 5.049, a month ago 2.852. a
year ago 866.
The usual light run was recorded
at the northern markets, five receiv-
ing point* reporting 21,500. with a very
general run of values, but with a slow,
dull movement.
Beef Stees—Local receipt* in the
beef division constated of 29 loads of
•Teers, not quite half of which were
fed. The grass end was far below
Monday's run in point of quality, while
the fed end, though lacking in a corn-
fed class, waa headed by the weightiest
and best finished meal cattle seen
here this year.
Packers were very indifferent bid-
ders from the start, and outsiders prac-
ticed a waftihg game, with the re-
sult of making a slow, dull and unsat-
sfactory market to the selling side.
Among the sales was ons load of
1 399-lb corn-fed steer* from Bellevue
at 5.75, one load of 1,225-1b of the same
feeding at 85.25, four loads from a
neighboring feed lot of 1,200-1b at
'85.15, and two loads of good 1,125-1b
meal rattle from Waco at 85. A class
of 800 to 1,025-1b short fed meal steers
sold from 84.50 to 84-85. Gras* steera
were slow sale, the demana being very
indifferent.
Stockers and Feeders—Some seven
cr eigTt loads of this class of grass
steers found' a less pronounced de-
mand than has been accorded this class
of steers recently. Bids ranged from
33.85 to 84, with the seller holding
out for $4.25 around on a string of
seven loads. -
Butcher Cows—A light supply of 10
loads of she stuff met with a siow
demand in sympathy with the dullness
in the steer trade. The tppty includ-
ed two loads of choke fed helfers
from the upper Panhandle that made
84 85, averaging 715. A few bunches
and odd head of choice cows sold, up
to 84 50 and 85. but the car-lot top
on rows was |3.85. One load of 635-1b.
heifers made $4, and another load of
520-1b went over Kt 88 80 cows of the
butcher class sold generally from $2.75
to 83.40. , ,
Bulle—The bull market was steady
on very light recfpts.
Calves—A decided advance in the
price of vealers WAs the feature of the
market, eholoe lights sailing up. to
$6, with heavies from 13.25 to $3.75.

well, considering the severe slump in

firmness which waa manlfested at va-

Oats were firm at the start owing
to the strength of corn end ensed off

Provisions displayed moderate firm-
