pointed a committee to take steps to retain the Medical Branch of
the University of Texas at Galveston, oonsistinr of the following:

with the undersigned as chairman. The Chamber's action in forming
this committee was occasioned by the recommendation of President
Rainey of the University that the Medical College, now at Galvestoa.,
and the Dental College, now at Houston, be consolidated with the
main university at Austin. Your organisation was joined by the
Houston Chamber of Commerce in combating any such move. The co-
operation of the Houston business interests did much to convince
the citizens of Texas that our interests were based wholly on thE
They cited to the members of the legislature and the people of
Texas the value of the land and buildings at Galveston, the 'ediyt
standing of the Medical School as approved by the Council or
Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Assoiatior
and by the Association of American Medical Colleges; that the John
Sealy Hospital was one of only seven Texas hospitals approved by
the American College of Surgeons and by the Council on Medical
education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association; that
the Nursing School was fully approved by the State Board of Nurse
Examiners, the only accredited agency recognized by the American
Medical Association0
In order to present salient pertinent facts and economic
factors, we employed a representative to quietly place all facts
and figures before all interested in the subject. have en-
gaged in no political activities or personal attacks. All efforts
have been confined to the presentation of factual data of the
economies inherent in retaining the Medical .ohool in Galveston
and that in nowise would the standing of the school, the ability
to secure a high grade teaching staff, the promotion of a health
