Sealed proposals will be received by
the board of commissioners of the city
of Galveston, at the office of the city
secretary, until 5 o’clock p. m., Monday,
July 9, 1917, and opened at the first
regular or special commissioners meet-
ing thereafter, for constructing a con-
crete bulkhead along the crest line of
the beach improvement fill, 200 fet
north of and parallel with the Galves-
ton county seawall, from the east
property line of Eighteenth street to a
point about 200 feet west of Nine-
teenth street, and from the west curb
line of Twenty-fifth street to the west
curb line of Thirty-ninth street, re-
quiring approximately 6,430 .lineal feet
of bulkhead.
The proposed work shall be con-
structed in accordance with plans, de-
tails and • specifications—.therefor pre-
pared by the city engineer, which will
be furnished upon application to his
"ice in the city hall, Galveston, Texas.
All proposals must be submitted in
duplicate and accompanied by a certi-
fied check, payable to the order of
the city secretary, in the sum of five
per cent of the amount bid. or the
same will not be considered. Said cer-
tified check and the money payable
thereon to be forfeited to the city as
ascertained and liquidated damages in
case an award is made and the con-
tract and bond is not promptly execut-
ed as required. The checks of unsuc-
cessful bidders will be returned to them
after opening of the bids and award
of contract ot the successful bidder.
Bond in the sum of fifty per cent
of the total contract nrice will be re-
quired for the faithful performance of
the work; sureties thereon must be sat-
isfactory to the board of city commis-
sioners.
The board of commissioners reserve
the right to reject any and all bids or
to accent the proposal and award con-
tract, that may in their judgment be
considered for the best interest of the
city.
