Austin, 'Texas. June 16,—The
County and local organizations of
the Defense Savings Staff in Tex-
as continue their work with many
innivations that are getting excel-
lent results. State Administrator,
Frank Scofield, stated: "‘It is the
initiative being displayed by the
local committees over the state
that is so' encouraging to our of-
fice. Certainly no one man er
small group could advance all the
fine ideas thait fare proving so ef-
fective in this work in our state. ’ ’
Chairman Lewell Lafferty of
the Tarrant County Committee re-
ports that Craig Wood, winner of
the American Open Golf Tourna-
ment recently held in Fort Worth’s
Colonial Club, displayed the fine
American spirit of today by in-

Special emphasis this week has
been placed upon Bilble study for
boys and girls in our Vacation
Bible School. We have had la very
successful school with 135 enroll-
ed and an average attendance of
120. Every department has been
well attended. The values of the
school lare many and varied. No
true estimate can be placed upon
them. The spiritual life of our
church has been enriched because
of these two weeks.
Two invitations are hereby of-
fered to parents and friends. A
picnic will be held Friday after-
noon, the group meeting first lat
■the church. A picnic lunch will be
spread and drinks will be served.
A suitable place is to be selected.
The children will enjoy well-
planned games directed by the
faculty members. The other invi-
tation is to attend the commence-
meat program Sunday night at
the hour of worship. There will
be la demonstration of some of the
things learned in the school and
a display of the handwork and
notelbooks. You will be delighted
with the program.

Alma Littrell and Miss Jewel Mc-
Cracken, June 12. They mapped
out several plans for the depart-
ment. Representatives were chos-
en for the Methodist Assembly

Gladys Gregory, and Joe Ogle.

In Mineola, Superintendent of
Schools, Ben A. Copass, reported
that Defense Bond and Stamp day
was held recently in that city’s
schools. The children there pur-
chased more than $2,000 worth of
Defense securities on that day
alone.

hours radio program was put on
one Sunday afternon by that
County’s three radio stations un-
der the direction of Beaumont
Chairman R. F. DuBois. The pro-
gram featured a patriotic address,
a negro quartet, orchestra music
and a cowboy band. Listeners were
requested to phone in subscrip-
zinnias in her miniature flower from Fort Sill, Okla., to Fort
