Ferris Watson was in town the
first of this week telling friends
that one of his pet duckling had
strayed from his front yard.
Mr. Watson said that he couldn’t
figure out just why the duckling
should leave the yard as the re-
mainder of the flock were in their
original places and seemed to like
the place very well.
The prize ducks may be seen in
his front yard at all hours of the
day or night and many persons
passing through town have enjoyed
rhe .sight of them.

Small Change Needed
Local business men have been
kept busy scouting around for
small change. The bank also has
been hard pressed to keep enough
small coins to supply local
needs. This shortage of small
change is brought about by the
government cutting down the
number of five cent and one cent
pieces that are minted to put the
metal into war needs.
R. E. Coomer, cashier of the
State National Bank, requests
that anyone who is saving small
change to put them back in cir-
culation every opportunity to help
in keeping enough small change
for needs of local business opera-
tions.

Nellis Hawkins, Reporter
The sixteen year old girls of
the Garland Baptist Church met
for a business meeting Wednesday
afternoon at 3:45 at the home of
their teacher, Mrs. Richard Ter-
ry. Those present were: Jackie
Toland, Mary Evelyn Harris, Nel-
lie Hawkins, Beverely Alexander,
Pauline Qussnberry, Tennis Beth
Garrison, Wanda Erickson, and
Martha Wynn.
The main topic for the after-
noon was ‘‘To be faithful in all
things.” Scriphire verse: “Be
ye steadfast, unmovable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord,
for as much as ye know that your
labor is in vain in the Lord*” I
Cor. 15:58. Song for the year:
“True Hearted, Whole Hearted.”
They decided to buy class pins.
Refreshments were served.
