The play will be presented
for the public Monday March
24 in the school auditor-
ium at 8 p.m. Admission will
be $1.00 for adults and 50c
for kindergarten thru 12th
grades. The play will be
presented the next day in
Amarillo in the District Com-
petition.

one-act play contest was held
in White Deer Monday.
Plays ran well ahead of
schedule and those who
hoped to see Groom’s play
presented arrived not to see
the play but hear the good
news that Groom and Hedley
had been chosen to advance
to the District Competition.
Groom will present their play
“Victoria at Eighteen”
March 25 between 1 and 5
p.m. at Amarillo College.
Others competing at White
Deer Monday were Claude,
McLean and Lefors.
Groom had five cast mem-
bers take honors at the Zone
Groom Band Receives
II Rating At Contest
Band Director, Dena
Kidd notified the News
Tuesday afternoon that the
Band returned from UIL
Competition in Panhandle
with a II Rating in both
concert and sightreading.
The band was judged by
three judges, one of which
gave the band a I rating. The
judges felt Groom Band gave
“a creditable performance
for the instrumentation the
band has.”
According to UIL rules a II
rating qualifies an excellent
performance with distinctive
quality.
Engineer for the park, Earl
Britten, reports that there is
at present enough fill dirt for
the park and that he will
continue to work on the
leveling and the placement of
the dirt for the near future.
Should further hauling be
necessary, The Groom News
will inform prospective
haulers.

tee Felix Ryals will be held
March 23 in Freedom Hall
immediately following the
film on Red China in the War
Memorial Building.
Ryals, manager of the
Panhandle Ground Water
Conservation District No. 3
since 1957, will retire his
position on April 1, 1980.
Programs instituted during
his years as Manager include
the thickness of the Ogallala
formation, the saturated
thickness of the Ogallala,
decline maps annually since
1961 and depth to the water
maps made on a periodic
basis. From 1963 to 1977
Ryals wrote a weekly column
titled “Panhandle Water”
for the Pampa News. A water
district publication “Pan-
handle Water News” was
published by the district for .
23 years.
Rules and regulations of
District No. 3 were amended
several times while Ryals
was manager. The Amend-
ment in 1977 was very signi-
ficant in that it limited the
number of wells, according
to size, that may be drilled in
। various sections of land.
Before coming to Texas,
Ryals served 18 years in the
