Beth El will hold a board meeting
Monday, December 1, at the home of
Mrs. Jack Solomon, 1620 E. Alabama
at 2:30 p.m. Board members are urg-

Miss Rae Kaminsky entertained
Tuesday evening with nine tables of
Ma Jong in compliment to her aunt,
Miss Ruth Kaminsky of New York,
who is a guest in the Kaminsky home.
Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Wyndelts and
little daughter, Merle Jean,, of Gal-
veston are the guests of Mr.jand Mrs.
Edgar Goldberg for the week end.
The Council of Jewish Juniors will
hold National Council Sabbath Sat-
urday morning at 10 o’clock at Tem-
ple Beth Israel, Miss Ray Kaminsky
will render a vocal solo, Elise Rosen-
thal will give a violin selection and
Gladys Davidson will deliver a ser-
monette on “What the Juniors can
do in Religion.” A special section will
be reserved for the Juniors and all
members are asked to attend.
The Junior Council reading group
will meet with Mrs. L. A. Freed at
her home on Houston Avenue Mon-
day, December 1, at 3 p.m. The book
for discussion will be “The Revolt of
the Angels” by Anatole Franco, All
members are asked to come and bring
their friends.
Mr, and Mrs. Sam Lipsitz of (al-
vert announce the marriage of their
daughter, Hortense, to Harry Fried-
lander, which occurred November 23.
Mrs. C. E, Moses and daughter,
Adeline, are spending the week in
Austin.

the Baptist Sanitarium Wednesday,

'1 he Christmas Season is a happy season. A
season ol good cheer. kindness, courtesy, self-
forgetfulness, service. Naturally, we have a
store full of gifty merchandise—but with it we
dispense a full measure of alertness, courtesy,

and flowers of the season. The din-

room. A tall rubber plant and other
ferns made the finishing touches of
the decorations.
The table in the dining room was
covered with fruits and candies of
all kinds, obtainable throughout the
evening. Ice cream, cake and punch
were served in the latter part of the
evening.
Dancing and merriment complet-
ed the evenings pleasures.

Mrs. M, D. Cohen presiding. Excel-
lent reports were given by the dif-
ferent committees. Delegates were
elected to the biennial convent on to-
be hell in St. Louis in January. Ten
dollars is to be sent to the triennial
convention of National Council of
Women. A fifty cent per capita vol-
untary contribution was requested to
defray expenses.
A very interestinF peace program
was given under the leadership of
Mrs. M. D. Naman. Dr. Barnston of-
fer d the prayer followed by the
sinking of America, led by Mrs. Mar-
vin Kahn, accompanied by Sadine
Naman. A most excellent paper was
given by Miss Gladys Fischel, ’ who
wa- introduced by Mrs. Moisu Levy.
Thu paper will appear in next week’s
Heraid, as it is a very valuable con-
tribution bi’ the Sisterhood.

One of the successful affairs of
the Henson was the ball given Sunday
evening, November 23, by the Ladies
Auxiliary of the Arbeiter Ring,
Branch 530, at the Brith Abraham
Hall.
Attractive entertainment features
preceding the dance were received
with much applause. Apearing on this
program wree Mr. James Wexler,
, vocal selections; Mr. L Feldt, in a
character monologue from Sholem
Aleichem; Mr. Alex Schwartz,, reci-
tation. Zurich Aheim; Miss Ethel
Fallis in a piano recital, and little
Miss Esther Finkelstein, pupil of
Miss Deborah Weinberg, in classic
and eccentric dances. Music by Miss

baskets of feathery white chrysan-
themums and autumn foliage 1 laced
at all vantage points. In the dining
room baskets of bride’s roses and
lilies of the valley suggested the
bridal theme while the embossed
wedding cake centering the daintily-
spread table furthered the general
scheme. Nile green tapers in tall
suer rand labra cast a soft glow
over the flowers and tinted confec-
tions in silver compote/. Mrs. A. (.
Bayless and Mrs. Lawrence Noble
poured tea and chocolate while a
group of Miss Taub’s girl frie ds as-
sisted in serving the dainties. The
ho:tess was assisted in receiving the
guests by her sister, Mrs. Sam Taub.
Mrs. A. M. Wolf and baby are in
Peaumont. the guest of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. H. Glober.

day, gave “The Life of Grace .Agui-
lar” in a most interesting end en-
lightening manner. She handled her
subject so as to appeal to the children
and their elders. The talk was inspir:
in- and made us feel prouder than
ever of our Jewish people and our
ct. urace Aguilar was an authoress
of note who used her pen for her peo-
ple. What a pity such a magnificent
character should have suffered and
have lived so short a time. But the
world is a better place for Grace
Aguilars having lived and there is
food for thought when we realize that
• ’ nih (she dind young, her books
and her character are still living.
Mrs. Sam Miler sang in her usual
brilliant style and Miss Elise Rosen-
thal’s violin solo was rendered mBst
beautifully.
Temple Beth Israel’s volunteer
choir sang their new music exception-
ally well and as always we were hap-
py to hear them.
