textbooks I found full chapters
relating—in words and in pho-
tos _ the Nazi bestialities
against Jews and condemning
them strongly . . . The children
are frankly told in these books
that the Nazis annihilated 6,-
000,000 Jews — this figure is
specifically mentioned in two of
the textbooks which I have seen
— and the mass-killing of Jews
in Nazi camps is depicted . .
One chapter on what the Nazis
have done to the Jews ends
with instructions for the pupils
to write compositions on the
inhuman treatment of Jews
under the Nazi regime ... It
stands to reason that not all
teachers may follow the aim of

will be moderator. Mrs. Sam

Mrs. Jake Axelrod, presi-
dent, will preside at this 12
noon luncheon in Feld Hall.
Convert for the luncheon is

Mrs. Victor Shifreen, chair-
man of the day for the Dec.
28th luncheon meeting, has ar-
ranged a “sneak preview" of
Spring '67 Knits by Joe Frank

the government to present to
the younger generation the
truth about the Nazi brutalities
against Jews, since some of
the teachers hold now the same
teaching positions which they
held under the Nazis . . . But
I was told of cases where chil-
dren come from school after the
lessons about the Nazi brutali-
ties against Jews and ask their
parents: “How did you behave
towards Jews in the Nazi
years?" . . . And I was told of
cases where German parents
come to school teachers and ask
them: "What are you doing
with my children; do you want
to set them against me?" . . .
Most of the teachers of the
Nazi years are elderly people,
close to the retirement age, and
their number is becoming
smaller with every year ... In
addition, all school teachers—
even those who hardly remem-
ber the Nazi regime —undergo
special courses in which the
consisting of 8 sessions, will
meet weekly on Thursday
nights from 8:15-9:45 p.m.
Fees are $15 for Center mem-
bers, and $25 for non-Center
mebers. Everyone wishing to
learn the secret of achievement
in both composition and speed
is urged to take part in this
course.
For those who have previous-
ly experienced a course in
Speedreading, the Center an-
nounces an Advanced Speed-
reading course, designed for
those who have taken a begin-
ner's course, and are interested
in keeping that speed'. This
course will consist of 6 ses-
sions, meeting weekly on
Thursday nights from 7-8 p.m.
Fees of $12 for Center mem-
bers, and $18 for non-Center
members.
Both classes begin Jan. 5,
1967. To insure your place in
a class register TODAY ; call

"THE MORE THE BETTER"
Th- Romans had a proverb:
D< gustibus non disputandum
. -t ’ It means. -You don't quar-
-• abut tastes." Every family
na- thr right and the privilege
-l-et the kind of Jewish
.duration thry wish to give
rh-ir children. That is a matter
-nat should not b- argued, like
truism that the more religious
education one gets, the better.
Certainly, no parents can quar-
rel about the advantage of hav-
ing their children learn as
much Hebrew as possible so
they can understand the prayer-
book and the Bible in the orig-
inal. and also get as deep a
foundation as possible in the
great texts of our faith.
It would, therefore, follow
that six hours a week of Jewish
religious study is preferable to
one or two, and that the Jewish
dav school which gives ten
hours of Hebrew a week be-
sides other content studies in
the course of the day should
be the ideal form of Jewish edu-
cation.
Since we have just celebrated
the Festival of Hanukkah and
kindled the lights which sym-
bolize the blessing of knowl-
edge and learning, we should
give some thought to making
sure that our children get as
fine a Jewish religious educa-
tion as is available to our com-
munity.

Nazi treatment of the Jews is a _
part of the indoctrination they
receive . . . There is, of course,
still a hard core of ex-Nazis in
the country who make up the
readership of the Deutsche
National-und-Soldaten Zeitung,
the rabid anti-Semitic weekly
newspaper in Germany . . . One
wonders why this paper is per-
mitted to exist, since the law
in West Germany provides for
the suppression of anti-Semitic
propaganda. . .
