COURT IN SESSION
Judge Marvin Blackburn,
District Judge was in Boerne
this week where on Monday
he presided over several no-
jury cases. The Grand Jury
also was in session.

BALCONES GRANGE
BOOSTER NIGHT
Balcones Grange held their
Annual Booster Night pro-
gram Sat., Sept. 23. The crowd
was small due to the weather
and the football game in
Boerne. The meeting was
opened with a prayer by Hilda
Zoeller. The Master then gave
25-year certificates to Charles
and Emma Pruter and Hugo
and Hilda Zoeller. The checks
from the prize money of the
needlework contest were then
given out. Jeanette Voges got
$2.50 for edging and Hilda
Zoeller got $20 for table cloth
and edging. Riddles by Paula
Theis, Reading by Nedra Man-
gold, Poem by Emil Mangold,
Song by Debra Holman, Mas-
ter Theis read the National
Master’s Message, Jeanie
Theis read the Balcones
Grange History. Curtis Voges
gave points on "Why you
should belong to the Grange.”
Then songs were drawn by
members and visitors for the
singing of quartets which
was really enjoyed by all. En-
trance prize went to Larry
Miller. Our State Master and
Mrs. Knight were some of our
visitors.
Refreshments of cake, cof-
fee and punch were then en-
joyed and a social hour was
spent.

A literacy class is beginning
Thursday, Sept. 28, 1967, 7
P.M. and continue as long as
necessary in order to give any
person above 8 years of age
an opportunity to learn to
read and write the English
language. This class is based
on the Laubach method which
is very successful, and besides
being used in this hemisphere,
has been used in many for-
eign lands. The group will be
gathered together for orienta-
tion at 205 West San Antonio
Avenue. A refreshment break
is planned and all is free,
teaching and refreshments.

The Robert Magers home
was the scene of a party on
Saturday, Sept. 16th. The oc-
casion was Leslie’s ninth
birthday. On hand for the ga-
la party were 25 friends and

Church, at Comfort, and fol-
lowed with a reception and
dance at the Sisterdale Hall.
Mrs. Spenrath is the former
Carolyn Seidensticker of Com-
fort.
Mrs. E. A. Offer Sr. and
Mrs. Arnold Marquart, will
host the monthly card party
Wednesday evening Oct. 4, at
the Sisterdale Community
Center.

home after having been in the
Comfort Hospital for several

returned home after an ex-
tended stav in Houston, with
her brnther. Mr. Jerome Snen-
rath. Frances is now attend-
ing Draughon’s Business
School in San Antonio.
Lt. and Mrs. Tames Spen-
rath nf Hill A F.B. Utah, ar-
rived Mondav for a two weeks
visit with his narents. Mr.

CADET GARY L. LINDNER
HONORED
Cadet Gary L. Lindner, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M.
Lindner of Comfort, Texas,
is one of more than 800 cadets
who have started their junior
year at the U.S. Air Force
Academy.
As he began his third year
at the academy. Cadet Lind-
ner was named to the superin-
tendent’s list in recognition of
his outstanding achievement
both academics and military
performance. He will be grant-
ed special privileges and wear
a silver wreath and star de-
signating the honor.
Cadet Lindner will serve
during the fall term as a
flight sergeant with the rank
of cadet master sergeant. He
was selected for the position
because of his demonstrated
leadership abilities and effec-
tiveness ratings.
During the past summer,
the cadet comrleted three
weeks of special dut at
Dyess AFB, Texas, in Opera-
tion “Third Lieutenant,” a
program which gives cadets
a first-hand look at Air Force
operations and gives them an
opportunity to perform as
junior officers.
Cadet Lindner will be com-
missioned a second lieutenant
and awarded a B. S. degree
upon his graduation from the
academy.
He is a 1965 graduate of
Comfort High School.
After an extend ed visit in
Wilton, Conn.. Mrs. John
F Kntzer has returned home.
Whila there she was a guest
in the home of her son and
familv. Mr. and Mrs T F.
Kntzer Jr. and their children,
Chris Kav and Ken.
