3. Hebrew is not only the medium in which the original and everlasting
values of Judaism have been preserved, but is also, in itself, a vlsting
rce of Jewish culture. Only through on intimate association with the
Hebrew language can the true significance of Judaism be appreciated. With-
out the knowledge of Hebrew, one cannot know intimately the soul of the
Jew. If we do not transmit the knowledge of Hebrew to our future genera

periods when Hebrew was not spoken, is served as the “language of the
book and was considered a holy “tongue”. Important Jewish works have

“WHY HEBREW”
stThose "ho think that effective Jewish education is possible without the

constitute a basic element in Jewish education and therefore occupies a
prominent place in the curriculum of the Jewish School of the intensive

7. The revival of Hebrew in Israel and the reestablishment of Jewish
statehood will enhance the influence of Hebrew culture throughout the Jew-
ish dispersion. The cultural inter-relationship between Israel and the dias-
pora will become intensified. American Jews, in ever greater numbers, will
visit Israel. As a result, the study of Hebrew will spread among the Jews
of America.
For all the reasons enumerated above, intensive Jewish education must
stress the teaching of the Hebrew language and the, propagation of Hebrew
culture.
