The first class to meet was a Senior Life Saving Class in
June. Boys and girls 16 and older were given senior life saving
training, and then Mrs. McCutchen trained them as Water Safety
Aides so they could help with the rest of the summer program.
NEW CLASSROOMS AT ST. ALBERT’S HALL
Classrooms | have been named for benefactors Albert and
Bessie Kronkosky Hall: the Louise Ann Lockwood Hall; Gus P.
'Staff Hall; Al and Anna Heck Hall, and Genevieve Hall.
Plan now to attend the Sat-
urday parade and other Ber-
ges Fest activities.
It started last April when Mrs. Hamby suggested to her P-TA
that they sponsor a Water Safety Program. At that time only
private lessons were offered in Boerne and the expense kept many
children from participating.

Mrs. Hamby was appointed chairman of the committee to see
about getting up such a program with Mrs. John Vogt as co-
chairman. They first asked for assistance from Mr. Tom Spence,
Jr., Red Cross director of First Aid and Water Safety. The Red
Cross provided literature and Mrs. Roy McCutchen, a veteran Red
Cross Water Safety instructor, offered to help set up the program
and work with the classes.

Summer provides a perfect opportunity for a P-TA to sponsor
a project directly benefiting children—as Mrs. Don Hamby and
members of the Boerne P-TA found out last summer.
That group provided sponsorship for a summer water safety
program offering six weeks of swimming instruction to young-
sters—and their mothers.
