Hoists &, Winohes
What you might call a side line in
our business is the building of elec-
tric hoists, from say 2-ton and up.
We don't go into the real small ones,
perhaps because most everything we
build is large. For instance, our
smallest scraper, or we call them
diggers, is our 3-wheel 25-ton pay-
load job and the gross weight on
our 150-ton digger is over 500,000
lbs. Then of course we have the
offshore drilling and crane platforms
weighing 9,000,000 lbs.
We build a special type AC motor
which has high slip performance
characteristics so that you can stall
it down to a standstill for a short
period without hurting it any. In
fact on the tusks which clamp down
on our stackers we do just that. This
AC motor has a stainless steel fan inReturn Old Address As It Appears Above

it that can get red hot without hurt-
ing it any, and the hotter it gets the
more the motors will pull. We make
these motors in seven basic sizes and
seven different synchronous speeds
from 600 to 7200 and some with two
speeds which gives us a range of
most anything you could ask for
from 1 to 500 HP.
On a digger these motors open and
close the front apron, raise and lower
the blade, run the tailgate forward
and back to empty the bucket, and
also steer the machine and drive
blowers for air circulation to theWith R. G. LeTourneau
