I. L. Kenen, representing
the American Zionist Council,
who testified in favor of the
Javits draft, stressed that his
organization was appearing in
behalf of American citizens.
Mr. Kenen said there was no
such thing as a “Jewish vote.”
A similar view on the “Jewish
vote" was voiced by Philip R.
Toomin of Chicago, who ap-
peared on behalf of the Amer-
ican Council of Judaism.

HOUSTON R’NAI B’RITN BARBECUE A PICNIC
With all preparations made for B’nai B’rith’s Annual
Barbecue & Picnic on Sunday. July 20 at the White Oak
Gun Club, members are now concerned with the many
demands for postponement of the event due to polio
conditions in Houston. Committee members feel that it
might be best to delay the Barbecue for a month and a
decision will be reached at a meeting of the General Plan-
ning Committee called for Thursday. July 10th at the
home of D. Aaron Topek.
' The Annual Barbecue & Picnic is one of the sum-
mer’s outstanding social events and has brought out the
largest crowds of the season. More than a thousand mem-

LEAVE FOR ISRAEL
TEL AVIV (JTA) - An-
nouncement was made here to-
day of the establishment of the
Israel-Argentine Development
Society to facilitate the immi-
gration and absorption of Jew-
ish settlers from Argentine.
A similar company will be
established in Buenos Aires,
Dr. Isaac Nissanson of that
city, disclosed. He said that
2,000 Argentine Jewish fami-
lies were ready to emigrate to
Israel and that the new com-
pany would arrange for their
housing and employment. Dr.
Pablo Manguel, the Argentine
envoy here, attended the cere-
monies marking establishment
of .the new enterprise and
promised it his aid.

tion this week called on the
Israel Government to increase
its imports of raw materials
and gradually eliminate its
controls over industry.

A three-fold advantage to Is-

During 1951, he reported, Is-

The Rutgers University pro-

it at the close of a three-week
long visit here. Purpose of the

and equipment purchases since
1949 and asserted that if this
taxation program is enforced
it will “shake the foundations"
of industry, particularly dur-
ing periods when raw mater-

industrialists agreed that fre-
quent changes in the cost of
living are harmful to the sta-
bilization of Israels economy,
but demanded that increased
costs be reflected in the price
structure.

A slashing attack on aid to

head of the National Economic
Council. He assailed U. S.
foreign policy as ill-conceived
and haphazard because, he as-
serted, it aided Russia, insult-

U.J.A. and Bond Drive
Described By Sharett As
"Two-Story"- House
NEW YORK (JTA) - The
United Jewish Appeal and the
Israel Bond drive were de-
scribed by Israel’s Foreign
Minister Moshe Sharett as “a
two-story house” in addressing
2,000 delegates at a meeting
here yesterday of the Council
of Organizations of the Urted
Jewish Appeal.
“We must build a two-story
house,” Mr. Sharett said. “I
call the United Jewish Appeal
the ground floor. Through the
U.J.A. you’ do things which
are absolutely vital and elemen-
tary. You sink money in the
land and in the soul of Israel.
You build up a new soul and
character of the people. On
that you-expect no returns, yet
you create new life for the
country and the people.
