This year is turning into one of the best in a long time
for LETU's sports teams. The basketball teams
have picked up where the soccer teams left off
in the fall. Both soccer teams qualified for the American
Southwest Conference playoffs and the basketball teams
are both challenging for spots with the season halfway
over.
First-year head coaches Tina Robbins and Bob Davis
are seeing immediate dividends for the LeTourneau
basketball programs. Robbins, in her first year as a
collegiate head coach, matched the combined win total
from the previous two seasons in just 13 games for the
LadyJackets. Davis, a 300-game winner at the junior
college level, has gotten the YellowJackets off to a 6-9
start and in contention for an ASC playoff berth.
While each team is winning more than in the past, the
credit should not only go to the coaches. Marissa Coop,
a senior point guard, has been a team leader for the
LadyJackets, and in a 72-61 win over East Texas Baptist
University on Jan. 10, she became the ASC all-time leader
in career assists and currently has 461, more than any
other LETU basketball player, male or female.A

The men's team is led by Dusty Evers, a freshman
center from nearby White Oak, Texas. Evers started the
season by being named the ASC East Division Player
of the Week on Nov. 28, and has continued his strong
play. He leads the YellowJackets in scoring, rebounding,
shooting percentage and blocked shots.
Highlighting the spring season is Damon Stokes,
a senior electrical engineer who also happens to play
centerfield for the baseball team. Stokes earned first team
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors last
year and will attempt to add to his legacy this year.
A few other spring athletes to keep an eye on are junior
golfer Christian Sarran and sophomore softball shortstop
Samantha Brummell. Sarran earned second team all-ASC
honors last season and leads a talented squad that is
ranked 23rd in the nation heading into the spring season.
Brummell set a number of LadyJacket softball records in her
freshman season and should continue to assault the record
books as her career progresses. N!Y a
