Unfortunately, Santa was a trifle
tardy coming to our house and
exhaustion finally consumed me and
my 4-year-old sibling. Our parents
found us later that night asleep at the

managed to do so every year since.
I’m still confident that one day I’ll
catch up to him.
I will always remember that very

mas morning, so we kept our com-
plaints down to a dull roar.
Every year, Jennifer and I would
conspire to catch a glimpse of Santa
delivering our presents. Unfortunate-
ly, we were usually thwarted in our
pursuit — mainly because we fell
asleep long before good ol’ Saint Nick
showed up.
But that year was going to be differ-
ent Why, you ask? One word:

Yes, for my birthday that year, my
parents had unwisely given me a
Polaroid camera and I had saved a
few frames of my precious film to cap-
ture that jolly old elf for all time.

I were little, Christmas was a major

children. But one year was especially
memorable.
When I was 8 years old, our mother
had the great idea of purchasing as
our Christmas Eve attire thick, floor-
length, bright red wool nightgowns
with matching robes and — get this
— night caps! And they weren’t just
red wool, they had white lace on
them, too!
Ugh! These nighttime garments
were like the kiss of death to young-
sters who wanted nothing more than
to run around in our Wonder Woman
underoos.
But she promised that we’d only
have to wear the nightgowns during
the unwrapping ceremony on Christ -
