HOUSTON, Texas, Feb. 28—State!
headquarters of the United Americans !
is rapidly lining up its plans to carry
a realization of existing conditions to
the uttermost corners and most remote
parts of Texas. It will not be content |
to spread the doctrine of Americanism
in the cities and centers of population.
Even though the most apparent need
for education may be present in cities,
it realizes that it the current of public
thought and understanding of the vital
issues of today are to be effective in
counteracting the illusory theories and
destructive plans of those who urge
disorder in the place of order, the doc-
trine of 100 per cent Americanism must
be carried wherever there is a Texan
with red blood in his veins.
During the week over seven thou-
sand letters have been written and
dispatchd to Texans in the first
movement to create concrete organi-
zation which will forestall and coun-
teract the insidious propaganda which
is finding its way into Texas from the ।
busy presses of the Bolsheviki in the |
United States.
Already replies are coming in and
the indications are that within a short I
time membership in the United Ameri- }
cans in Texas will spread to the four
corners of the State.
“It is a colossal job to awaken our
people to those disasters which are
threatening them,” declared John H.
Kirby, national committeeman for
Texas. “It is difficult for our patri-
otic citizens in Texas to conceive of
the enormous propaganda which is

to awaken them before it is too late.
It will amaze many of us, hundreds
of thousands of us, in fact, to know
that the Bolsheviki movement in the
United States now has a capable and
systematized force of over 2600 trained
and paid agitators. It has 265 daily,
weekly and monthly periodicals, some
of which have a circulation of 200,000
and reaching ten million readers.
“This literature, some of which is
high class and therefore the more dan-
gerous, is eagerly seized by millions
of the discontented, who are being led
away from the very foundation of their
own happiness. It behooves us to
counteract this propaganda. It be-

The robbers entered the bank
through a rear window and, when dis
covered by Rye, immediately opened
fire, one bullet penetrating the watch-
man’s abdomen. Rye, who died fifteen
minutes later, fired four shots, but it
was believed the bandits escaped un-
wounded. Sound of the shooting
quickly brought citizens to the bank,
but the two men were gone. Shortly
afterward farmers south of Plano re-
ported the passage of an automobile
going at high speed in the direction
of Dallas
Detectives from Dallas were sum-
moned and photographed finger prints
left by the robbers on various safe
deposit boxes from which most of the
bonds were stolen.

U. A. BRADFORD
Candidate for Sheriff of Travis County
As a young man Clyde Bradford
worked as a clerk and in other capaci-
ties, beginning the career that caused
him to develop into a business man,
and a successful one. which be is to-
day. Loiter be had wide experience as
an officer; be has had experience in
managing financial attairs, he has
mixed and mingled with the laboring
people, and they understand him and
he has an abiding sympathy for them
when he conceives their cause is just,
hence he is not only capacitated in
every essential manner to make an ef-
ficient sherirr, but his backing is com-
las from so many quarters that those
best Informed state they see no reason-
able way in which the opposition may
bring about his defeat. "Every man
migt possess some one of the several
peculiar qualifications that would tend
to make an excellent sheriff. but they
are few and far between who possess
all these qualifications as Bradford
does," was a comment by a Bradford
backer Saturday, who is of the opinion
his favorite wlU get a clear majority
of the votes in the first primaries,
whereas a mere plurality is sufficient.
Bradford is plain spoken in all his
relations—business, official and poli-
tics—and he states frankly that fter
having gone over a large portion of the
county already, he la really pleasantiy
surprised to find the strength his
candidacy has gained. He will not.
however, permit this fact to stop his
strenuous efforts in therace. ' He says
he is really making it a point to sea
every voter—man and woman—in the
county. If possible, and will at least
see the majority of them.
He states that so long as laws are
on statute books, put there by legis-
lative bodies, he considers it the duty
of executive otficers to enforce them;
that he will do this without fear or
favor if chosen sherirt. “I know that
the women voters want laws enforced,
and inasmuch as that la my intention
anyhow. I feel that I can appropriately
appeal to them for their surtrage, and
I take this method of doing so."
Most of the men voters living in the
town and country know Mr. Bradford,
know of his activity, ability and exper-
lence and he will, as he says, see them
in person very largely, anyway. Nat-
urally it will be more difficult to see
all the women voters, but no doubt they
wili be pleased to know that there is
a canaidate for sheriff in the person of
Mr. Bradford, who win enforce the
atatuten ao long as they remain ua-
repealed.
